ASDCA Division 1 Winter Trophy
2022 — Tempe, AZ/US
Dramatic Interp: While AIA Tournament Rules will be the foundation for the operation of this tournament, please be advised that they will not apply in all situations. We have clearly noted any diversions from the AIA rules in the event information section. Event rules align with the NSDA.
Contest: The presentation is a memorized performance of literature of a serious or dramatic nature.
Length: The time limit is 10 minutes with a 30-second “grace period.” If there are multiple judges in the round, all must agree that the student has gone beyond the grace period. Should a student go beyond the grace period, the student may not be ranked 1st. There is no other prescribed penalty for going over the grace period. The ranking is up to each individual judge’s discretion. Judges who choose to time are to use accurate (stopwatch function) timing devices. No minimum time is mandated.
Publication Rules: The new NSDA's literature publication rules apply.
Voice: The voice/point of view (first, second, or third person) of a script may not be changed.
Adaptations: Changes to the script may only be used for the purpose of transition or to eliminate profane language. Transitions may be used to clarify the logical sequence of ideas. They are not to be used for the purpose of embellishing the humorous or dramatic effect of the literature. Combining small fractions of sentences or singular words to create humorous or dramatic dialogue, scenes, moments, and/or plotlines not intended in the original literature is prohibited. Transitions only may be used to clarify the logical sequence of ideas
