Middle School Just Talk: Oratory/Informative
Event Description:
This event is a combination of Oratory and Informative speaking. No visual aids are allowed.
MS Just Talk General Judging Instructions
- MS Just Talk is an informative or a persuasive speech that is created, written and memorized by the contestant.
- Presentation shall be from memory. No props or costumes are allowed.
- Movement and gestures are allowed. No more than 150 words of quoted or paraphrased material may be used.
- Time limit is 5-10 minutes. Penalty for overtime determined by judge’s discretion.
Thought Content: Does the speaker establish a central theme? Does the speaker demonstrate the importance of the topic?
Organization/Development of Ideas: Is there an adequate and interesting introduction? Is the material organized? Does the conclusion grow out of what has preceded?
Language Use: Is the language used clear and concise? Is there effective use of language in word choice and phrasing?
Delivery: Do fluency, enunciation and vocal quality enhance communication? Are movements and gestures natural and unobtrusive? Does vocal tone convey the meaning of the speaker?
Overall Effect: Does the speaker keep the attention of the audience being addressed?

Judges please give competitors at least one suggestion for improvement and note at least one thing they did well. They covet your feedback; however, do not spend too much time writing comments. The tabroom is waiting on you to submit your ballot so the tournament can continue in a timely manner.
