Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.

Event Description:

  • Time limits will be 8-3-8-3-8-3-8-3-5-5-5-5. Prep time: 8 minutes. We will be using NSDA rules.

  • The national topic will be debated. Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.

  • In a case of forfeit or bye, the winning team’s speaker points will be averaged, as will opposition record.

  • The following criteria will be used to determine quarterfinalists: win/loss record, speaker ranks, win/loss record of the team inflicting loss, total opposition record, opposition’s opposition record.

  • 1. NFHS or NDCA Case Lists will NOT be enforced for this tournament. Novices may run ANY affirmative case. Our rationale is that districts are a month away and we are in second semester and this is a good way to get kids thinking of additional case areas.

    2. Teams are not to use kritiks or critical affirmative cases.

    3. Negative teams are not to use counterplans.

    4. If a team believes their opponent has violated the rules listed above, they should:

    A. continue to debate the round,

    B. inform their coach immediately after the round, and,

    C. The coach should immediately inform the tournament director.

    D. All final decisions will be made by the tournament director.

    E. Teams found in violation will receive a loss with speaker ranks of 3-4.


    Judges will be instructed about the restrictions on counterplans and kritiks.
