Speech & Congress SYNC Paradigm List
All Paradigms: Show HideEVERYTHING SHOULD BE DONE WITH A PURPOSE!!!
Below are some things that I, and most judges will look for, but I will especially take into account the purpose!
1. Clarity of Content
- Does the speech have a clear and well-organized structure?
- Are the main points easy to follow, and is there a clear introduction, body, and conclusion?
- Is the content relevant to the speech's purpose and topic?
2. Delivery and Style
- How effectively does the speaker engage the audience through their tone, pace, and vocal variety?
- Is the speaker's body language confident and appropriate for the topic?
- Does the speaker make effective use of gestures and eye contact?
3. Language and Diction
- Is the language used clear, concise, and appropriate for the audience?
- Are there any distracting filler words or verbal tics (e.g., "um," "uh," "like")?
- Does the speaker use powerful and persuasive language when needed?
8. Overall Impression
- What is the overall impact and impression of the speech?
- Does the speech effectively achieve its intended purpose, whether it's to inform, persuade, entertain, or inspire?
I have some judging experience, however consider me a lay judge while making arguments.
I am here to evaluate the arguments presented by both teams and determine which team has done the better job of persuading me. I am not an expert in debate, so I will not be able to follow complex arguments or jargon. I am looking for debaters who are clear, concise, and persuasive. I will also be considering your delivery and demeanor when making my decision
some specific things I will be looking for:
- Clarity:Can you explain your arguments in a way that I can understand?
- Conciseness:Can you get to the point without using too many words?
- Persuasiveness:Do you use evidence and logic to support your arguments?
- Delivery:Do you speak clearly and confidently?
- Demeanor:Are you respectful of your opponent and the judge?
some things that I will not be swayed by:
- Speed:Speaking quickly does not make you more persuasive.
- Volume:Yelling does not make your arguments more valid.
- Jargon:Using complex debate jargon will only make it harder for me to understand your arguments.
- Personal attacks:Attacking your opponent personally is not a valid argument.
