Hi my name is Edalene. I am a student judge. I did MS Public Forum for 2.
Some Other Notes:
I will be keeping time, but feel free to do so too.
Don’t bring up new information in the summary/ final focus
Weigh your argument. Why is what you said important? Why should I vote for you?
I will not judge based of crossfire, so if any important points were brought up mention them in your speech.
I appreciate signposting
Be respectful to one another
Bring through your argument to your final focus, otherwise I will consider it dropped and will not consider it towards your overall argument, even if th opponent never addresses it.
I am not going to judge based of speaking but please speak clearly and not too quickly so that I can understand.
Good luck and have fun!!

Hello!
Here are some pointers to take into account when I judge a round of PF:
- Weighing is a MUST --> must be comparative
- Strengthen links WHILE de-linking your opponents points
- If you bring up a framework, carry it throughout ALL of your speeches
- I do allow off-time roadmaps
- Try not to be TOO repetitive --> I take note of as much as I can so if I catch a strong point, I will take that into account so there isn't a need to spend too much time going over the same point
- Make sure to refute directly --> In other words, try not to beat around the bush
- If you can, I strongly encourage you to front line, although I understand it may be difficult for Pro teams
- Logic AND Evidence
I understand that this may be a LOT to do in a round but try to do as many as possible. In addition, I will usually be judging based off of how well you did for the division you are in.
Good Luck!!!!

Hello Debate Scholars,
I love to see well developed and researched contentions. The more concise and endepth evidence the better. I enjoy when scholars are aware and show compassion for communities and for topics that focus on tough social and political issues. It is important for debaters to have a solid understanding of the various stories, narratives and experiences of the stakeholders involved within each issue. I appreciate culturally relevant stances that embrace and tackle deep rooted issues surrounding race, racism, discrimination, identity and equity. I most enjoy when debate scholars try their very best to present clear, concise and solution based speeches that uphold the dignity and respect for every person involved in their speech. I have been coaching middle school and high school debate for 7 years. My teams have won League, State and National Championships. It is with great honor that I am fortunate to see debate scholars who debate with love, respect and a great spirit of competitiveness for their craft.
Sincerely,
Chiara D. Fuller

Hello,
I currently go to Hewitt and have been debating since 7th grade, throughout the debate I will be flowing every speech with an exception of crossfire which I will not be flowing but listening very carefully to. If there is something important from cross it is extremely important that gets brought up again in the round, it's also super important that your speeches are well organized and clear. I don't mind if you speak fast just don't be obnoxious and please be respectful of your opponent while being confident. Please be well-versed in the rules of pf before the round begins and if you want to pre-flow try and do that as quickly as possible. I will give feedback at the end of the round if it's requested, and lastly don't stress! This is supposed to be fun, and if you have any questions feel free to ask before the round starts or after.
Thank You!!

Hello, I'm Sophia (any pronouns) - I'm a former middle school/high school Public Forum debater with some Parli experience.
A few things to keep in mind during the round:
1. If you say something in crossfire that you would like me to weigh, make sure to bring it up in speeches.
2. In that vein, please try to extend your arguments through summary and FF.
3. Please signpost and give a roadmap of your speech.
4. Please be respectful of each other and the opposing team.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me before the round. If you have questions about my feedback, feel free to email me atsophia.a.freitas@gmail.com.

Personal Experience
I like to think of myself as a semi-experienced Public Forum debater. I have been debating public form for 3 years. I HAVE NOT judged a substantial amount of rounds.
Personal Debate Preference
I enjoy cases that are clear and to the point. It should have a structure to it and not seem like a flow of facts. Strong link chains should be established as that is one of the primary factors I vote for. I want to be told what I should vote for, meaning you should WEIGH. Do not weigh on a counter argument without any FACTS. For example do NOT just say I weigh on the entire world because everyone would die in the opposing world. I want to know WHY everyone would die, this should be established from your rebuttal not just thrown out in final focus. I WILL vote on aspects of cross examination, such as if you get the opposition to admit to one of your points in cross or you get them to contradict their own case. I will only vote on cross if you tell me what should be voted on in cross in your speech. I do not care a single bit about speech speed as long as it is understandable. If it is not I will tell you. No need to worry about that. And I love watching strong speakers doing what they do best.

Hello! I currently go to Beacon Highschool and have been debating for 5 years.
I am a very technical judge, I will be flowing every speech. Crossfire will not count towards my ultimate decision. I expect teams to preflow prior to the round, once every team is in the room the round should start as soon as possible. Since I have been debating for so long I don’t mind fast speakers. Do not bring up new evidence after 2nd summary, it will not count on my flow. I will give feedback at the end of the round if it is requested.
This goes without saying but rude/offensive behavior will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The most important part of debate is learning something from every round so do not stress about this and just have fun. If you have any questions feel free to ask me before the round begins.
Thank you for taking the time to read this & I will see u soon!

Hi, I'm Sophie and my pronouns are she/her. I'm a student at Hunter College High School and I currently debate circuit LD. Before, I did 2 years of PF debate in Middle School, mainly on a local level.
Email: sophie.liz.obrien@gmail.com
NYCUDL PF:
-
Tech > Truth --> I'll vote on anything with a clear claim, warrant, impact as long as it's not outright problematic
-
Speed: go nuts as long as you are clear and enunciate. Pls know your limits don’t speak insanely fast if you're just slurring your words at that point.
-
I lean towards policy-style debate/affs. That isn’t to say I won’t vote on theory, Ks, etc, but policy is a sweet spot for me
-
Weigh : make sure to do comparative weighing and provide well-explained link-level weighing. Saying "we o/ weigh on magnitude" and calling it a day is NOT weighing.
-
If you don’t weigh, your not winning
-
I appreciate it when weighing begins early in the round (even as early as rebuttal speeches). Saying your arguments outweigh in rebuttal is a great tactic to use on arguments that are more fundamentally true with lesser impacts
-
Signpost clearly
-
Extend arguments (explain your links, impacts, etc)
-
For new debaters: Make new offensive and defensive arguments in rebuttal speeches. This might seem pretty obvious, but new debaters often have a tendency to go in circles re-explaining the same refute over again in different fonts and applying them to the entire case. This isn't to say cross-applying arguments is bad, in fact pls do cross-apply it is a good strategy. Just beware of repeating yourself and aim to think of new arguments that specifically relate to each contention. A rebuttal speech where I am almost always writing something down on my flow is a good one and I’ll give credit to that.
-
I don't evaluate cross-fire and frankly, I really don’t care about it. If a new argument is made in cross-fire, it must be brought up again in a speech for it to be evaluated
-
I place great weight on evidence transparency and have 0 tolerance for lying/misquoting evidence so if you have any fake cards delete them. now.
-
If a team cards you, I expect immediate proof (no shuffling through/scrambling to get your cards together)
-
I don’t insert myself into a round, but if I feel my ballot is weighted primarily on a piece of evidence, I will ask to see it (this is in extreme cases though, it is up to you to call for/challenge cards)
Extra:
-
If your team goes 2nd and you take prep right after the very 1st constructive speech, you are getting a 27 for speaks. Why? It's annoying
-
Remember debate at the end of the day is a game and I really enjoy when debaters remain appropriate while also keeping it light-hearted!! If you can make a relevant joke or make me smile I'll defo up your speaks.

Hey! My name is Anna Rams, she/her, and I am a sophomore in high school. This is also my fifth year participating in Speech & Debate, with categories including Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, Extemp, and Congress.
Please let me know if you have any questions about any decisions made during a round.
Please signpost and weigh throughout the round. Also, with weighing, please make your weighing more than one sentence. Elaboration is key.
No stress about stuttering; I care more about if your arguments get across. However, if I cannot understand your speech (excessive mumbling, screaming, spreading, etc,) there will be more speaker points taken off.
I won’t count cross as part of the debate, only when points brought up in cross are carried on in a summary/final focus.
I will keep time in the round, both for the formality of the debate, and for my judging. Feel free to keep your own time throughout the round.
Most importantly, just enjoy yourself and have fun!

My name is Sameeha Saleem. I’m a student judge. I’ve been doing debates in many different formats but specifically, I did public forum debates for two years during middle school.
Important things to consider:
-
get to the round as soon as you can
-
Be respectful and considerate of your fellow debaters (no discriminatory remarks)
-
Before starting, please tell me your name, what speaker you are, and your pronouns
-
try to be as clear as possible
-
Everyone has their own speeds of speaking and understanding so try to speak at a reasonable speed
-
Will always keep time, but just as a recommendation debaters should also keep time.
-
Cards might be called if felt that they are necessary.
-
Always state where you got your evidence for.
-
Try to weigh in your summaries and definitely in your final focuses.
-
I won't count anything that happens during crossfires unless someone brings it up in their speech.
-
No new points should be brought up during the summary or final focus.
-
Verbal feedback will be given if asked, as well as written feedback on tabroom

Hello, my name is Ayrah and I am a sophomore student in high school. I have debated public forum for three and a half years, and this is my second year of judging debates. That being said, here are a few of my preferences/tips for when it comes to a round:
1) I don't take crossfire into consideration unless you bring up what was said in your speeches. So, if you managed to get your opponent to slip up during a crossfire or perhaps you answered/rebutted their questions/points cleverly and really want to showcase that to me, you should include it in your summaries, final focuses or rebuttals. Be weary not to drop any arguments.
2) I don't mind if you talk fast, just don't spread. I will time you but I also recommend you time yourself to be able to know when and how to pace yourself.
3) Weighing is very important to me, because your weighing is pretty much selling your arguments to me. I would like to see weighing in the summary and especially final focus, and I wouldn't mind seeing it in rebuttal speeches as well. But don't make your weighing just one sentence such as "We win on scope because we affect more people because [insert basic response]" etc. I'd like to see you elaborate on your weighing because again, that is a big part of what sells your arguments to me. In addition, when you state your contentions during your first speech, I need to know why your reason for or against an argument matters because again, you want to emphasize that your contentions matter (impact) and aren't just a list of pros or cons. Also, make sure you don't have any defensive arguments or else you have little to no impact.
4) I prefer the use of a framework but make sure it isn't anything like "If we prove to you that the pros outweigh the cons we win" because that's rather obvious and so it ends up being a waste of a few crucial seconds.
5) I recommend you use your prep time wisely and not let it go to waste because it is given to you for a reason. Writing on the spot can be very stressful (trust me, I'd know), but if you learn to maximize your prep time, it will gradually make things easier for you.
I hope this doesn't come off as intimidating! I am no perfect debater and I've definitely had my moments both in the spotlight and in moments I wish I could forget when it comes to debate. Just because I might be older or have debated longer doesn't necessarily mean that I am much better than you. I am just using my debate experience over the course of the past few years to try and provide any insight I can to help you improve, and of course, to try to be a fair judge. With all that said, I wish you good luck!

Flow judge with high school PF experience. Time yourself and speak clearly at a reasonable pace. In other words, don't spread. Don't run Theory or K. I don't flow or vote off of cross. No sticky defense. Remember to weigh and please be respectful to each other. :) If you reference Peppa Pig, I will consider it when assigning speaks.
