• Don't speak too fast. Spreading or reading too fast will cost you, might not catch arguments on the flow

Hi! I'm Juliana Ludwig, a junior at Walt Whitman High School in Maryland. This is my third year debating in LD, and although I'm a very traditional debater, I'm familiar with several styles of debate. I love interesting, unique arguments, so feel free to read any arguments you'd like, just try to stay away from classism, ableism, or any other form of bigotry.

For LD debaters:

Tricks are fundamentally unfair, especially in the novice division, so I will not vote for you based off of a trick. I'm also not super familiar with Ks, so if you read one, don't expect that I'll immediately understand.

I believe that any case can be a winning case, so I'll keep an open mind, but confidence is the easiest way to convince me that you know what you're talking about. Be assertive(and polite!) during CX, and tell me not only why your case is right, but why your opponent's is wrong.

New arguments given in the 2NR or 2AR won't go on my flow, so read your best arguments as early as possible and be sure to keep extending them. In addition, be sure to describe and weigh the impacts of the case. CX is binding, and will go on my flow, so be intentional with the questions you ask and how you respond.

Framework debate should take priority over contention debate. If you lose the framework debate, or you think you may lose the framework debate, try to fit your contentions and impacts under your opponent's framework. If the impacts of your case don't fall under the winning framework, I can't vote for you.

If you plan to spread, ask your opponent if they can understand spreading before the round begins. Debate is no fun when one debater can't hear any of the arguments.

1. Speaking Style: Please speak clearly especially when you spread if you want to be understood. If I can't clearly hear your points, I won't be able to flow them.
2. Clarity: Make sure you tie your contentions and refutes to the resolution. Please signpost in your refutes.
3. Structure your final rebuttals in a format that is easy for the judge to organize. Off-time roadmaps are very helpful.
4. Engage the totality of your opponents' arguments. Use time for cross-ex wisely.
5. Cite LD rules where you can.

Weighing is crucial and will be a huge part of my decision as to who won or lost

Use up all or as much as possible of your time- it tells me you have a lot to say and adds to your case

Obviously, be respectful to both your teammates and your opponents. No interrupting others
