Numbers never lie. Use them with context and as best you can.

Tell me how likely your contention may happen and how soon. In a few months or a decade? Does it affect the majority of a population? Has this event happened before? Explain it to me.

I look for debaters that form clear and logical arguments. I value quality over quantity which means talking fast or asking 5 or more questions during a crossfire is less productive in my eyes than focusing the debate on a few key points. I think it's important to be assertive but being aggressive or trying to put words into your opponent's mouth is counterproductive.

Evidence is very important but throwing out a plethora of scattered and dense statistics is also not helpful. Use quantitative evidence where it adds value to your argument. Logic and reasoning are equally valid ways to provide evidence.

I’ve been doing HSPF for a few years so I’m a pretty standard/flexible judge and I’m open to you all debating however you please, but in general:

• It will be so much easier for me to vote for you if you do clear extensions, warrants, and weighing in the round

• Please, please do not extend every single piece of offense in the round, my brain will explode! Collapse on what you think is most strategic and I promise it will always be to your benefit

• I probably won't flow anything that's super past time

• Theory/Ks may be difficult for me to evaluate on a technical level, but if there’s a very clear offense you are welcome to

I try to give good speaks to everyone in the round, though some tournaments ask us to be very strict so that they can out speaker points into rankings.

Hi all! My name is Jason and I am a junior at Queens HS for the Sciences at York College. I was a policy debater for the last two years, and now I judge PF :).

Here are some things to note:

- If both sides are OK with it, then you guys are free to time yourselves (speeches, prep, etc.).

- Please speak with clarity, especially if you plan to talk quickly.

- Weigh/consider impacts. Never drop arguments (unless done intentionally lol).

- The more clash, the better ;)

- I'll try to be/do Tabula Rasa.

- Framework is key! Give me a lens to view the debate and tell me why I should look at the debate from that viewpoint.

- Signpost as you go and guide my flow. I won't flow crossfires unless it's referenced in a subsequent speech, but I will listen in for speaker points. I will always appreciate organization and clarity (not only speaking but also in speech direction).

- Feel free to use up all your prep time.

My pronouns are she/her/hers. I'm a college student that competed in I've been competing in debate for 7 years in Pennsylvania. I'm a four-time state qualifier and NCFL Grand National qualifier. I've dabbled in parli, congress, and big questions but public forum is my main event.

My preferences aren't too particular. With that being said, the most important things for me as a judge is to hear weighing and voters. Weigh as soon possible, if you can starting in rebuttal and extend through the rest of your speeches. Voters should be coming in summary and extended through final focus, you don't need to specifically tag it as voters but it should be clear that those are the main issues in the round and that you want me to vote on them.

I shouldn't hear any new responses in second summary or final focus, I find it abusive and won't evaluate the response. I really don't want to hear new responses in first summary either because you should be crystalizing arguments already made in round, that's what summary is for.

I will only call for cards if you specifically ask me to or if I feel like your lying about your evidence and it's crucial to my decision.

I don't flow crossfire nor really care about it. In the off chance that I am paying attention to crossfire, don't be rude to your opponents or shoot yourself in the foot with your responses and you should be fine. Be able to uphold your argument because if I am listening and you can't defend your point that will make me lose confidence in your argument.

I don't tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, or any other ism. I will drop your speaks and depending on the situation potentially drop your ballot. Respect everyone's pronouns. If you are unsure of someone's pronouns ask or use gender neutral terms (my opponents, my judge, they/them, you all, everyone, etc). Remember, debate should be a fun activity that fosters inclusivity, don't be a prick.

Philosophy: I prefer not to list too many preferences here because I think debate rounds go best when they are scholar directed. With that being said, it is important to me that the basics of debate are not lost in more advanced rounds. Evidence of being fully prepared with a well-researched plan is first and foremost. Don’t throw something together before the round to stump your opponent if you aren’t fully ready to run it. Sign-posting, explaining complicated arguments in layman's terms, weighing the round, and explaining why you need the ballot are all techniques I look for and appreciate. I enjoy Kritik debates, but only when the argument is fairly explained to the opposing team. Don't just tell us the starting point and end goal - tell us how we're getting from point A to point B. Finally, remember to learn a ton and have fun!

Side note - I really am not swayed by "NUCLEAR WAR! EVERYONE IS GOING TO DIE!" as the impact for all off cases. You'll need to do more work than that. That stands for any other impact that aligns with that train of thought.

I am pretty new to debate. You should also emphasize the arguments that are dropped so I can vote on you easier.

Don't drop case nor should you drop T. Remember to extend your arguments.
