I competed for the Harley School and the NSDA USA Development team and now compete for the University of Central Florida. I did LD for 4 years, Congress for 6, and World Schools for 1.
For LD:
*I flow and will be keeping track of every contention you say and respond to (so I will know if you or your opponent did/did not respond to something).
As a general rule, no spreading. If I hear this, I will assume that you're purposefully trying to fit as much in your speech as possible such that your opponent doesn't have time to answer it all (and rightfully can't). This strategy is antithetical to the entire purpose of debate.
Signposting- Please clearly signpost so that I can properly flow all of your speeches. I'm totally open to you choosing which order you'd like to do rebuttal, constructive, and rebuilding, but make sure it makes sense in the context of what you're saying.
Rebuttal- Rebuttal is a 100% necessity and does not include simply saying "my opponent's argument isn't valid." You need to elaborate and explain why. Additionally, I really appreciate when debaters weigh the impacts of their arguments against their opponents- this shows me that you are embracing the true spirit of debate.
Value/VC- LD debate is about values, please tie your arguments to your value and tell me how you upheld your value better on your side.
I have 0 tolerance for disrespect or derogatory/offensive comments towards opponents. If this takes place it will reflect in the results.
