1. Contentions should be clearly laid out. (Ex. My first contention is...) This makes it easier for both me and your opponents to follow along with your case.

2. Please try not to spread (speak too quickly). I need to be able to understand your contentions in order to take notes.

3. I need you to have strong evidence to back up all claims. I prefer statistics and numbers over anecdotes.

4. Please be able to give your source when asked.

5. It is important that you have a strong impact and that you prove to me why your impact is more important than your opponents'.

One last note: please put the name of your school and which side you will be debating in your name. If you are comfortable, please add your pronouns too.

General

Speed- I can handle any pace. However, words must be clear and understandable.

Timing- Try to use up all the time provided, when time is up I can allow you to finish your last sentence. However, overtime must not last long.

Speech- new information should only be presented in the first and second speech, I will not take new information from the summary and final focus

Cards- when your opponent is calling cards, drop the link in the chat

Evidence- I encourage you to use evidence, but remember to cite your sources before or after you state your evidence

Speaker Points- 26-29 unless there’s misbehavior

Here are my preferences:

- I'm good with any arguments as long as you can explain it!

- Even though I will be timing, please time yourself. It will help you keep your pace. Also keep track of your prep time as well.

- Please speak clearly and slow down!! I would prefer if you don't spread. Enunciating your words will help me understand your ideas and contentions and keep up with the arguments.

- Try not to drop arguments! If your opponent drops an argument, you don't have to repeat it. Focus on expanding those ideas and why you should win.

- Please signpost your arguments and roadmap before your speech! It will help my flow and know the content of each idea in your speech.

- Make sure to focus on your impacts, framework, timeframe, and weighing.

- If you focus on defense too much in your last speech, it'll make me think that your arguments have no substance.
