For debate:

I will not factor in my political beliefs.

No theory or advanced frameworks.

Please introduce yourselves, your school, whether you are aff/neg, and also wether you are a first or second speaker before the round starts.

This is my second time judging - please go slow and elaborate on your arguments.

I will not be timing you guys - time yourselves, and keep track of each others prep time. I dont know what running prep or other debate/speech jargon is, so I will not stop you if you go over time thats on the other team.

Please say what round we are in (EX first summary, second rebuttal, etc.) before each round. I will have a basic flow outline, but again please say what round we are in before we start. This is one thing I will emphasize.

Please be kind. I will not accept any rude comments or obscenities towards each other. This is my biggest rule. If you do, I will most likely vote for the other team and tank your speaker points.

If there are any major disagreement (over cards, time, case disclosure, etc), I will most likely not be able to figure it out. Please figure it out amongst yourselves or ask an organizer.

While I do strive to make everyone comfortable, please do not run trigger warrning or any moral arguments on me. I will not be able to follow, and as such wont weigh on it.

I will also try not to weigh to heavily in crosses. If anything happens, extend it later.

For speech:

I have no clue what speech is or what I will be expected to do, until the morning of when I will be given a briefing by the organizers.

I am not super knowledgeable in american pop culture.

I know you guys are supposed to memorize some but not others, so please tell me what you are supposed to memorize/not supposed to memorize before the round.

Winning my ballot starts with weighing, in fact, weighing is so important I'd prefer if you did it at the begiNning of every speech after first rebuttal. Be cOmparative, I need a reason why I should look to your arguments firsT. Please collapse, don't go for more than one case arg in the second half, its unnecessaRy. I'm a lazy judge the easIest plaCe to vote is where I'll sign my ballot. I'm not going to do more worK than I need to. I will not vote off of one sentence offense, everything needS to be explained clearly, warranted, and weighed for me to evaluate it(turns especially). I try not to presume but if I do, I will presume whoever lost the coin flip.

I will evaluate progressive arguments.

If you are going to give a content warning please do it correctly - this means anonymized content warnings with ample time to respond.

I'm very generous with speaks, speaking style doesn't affect how I evaluate the round and I don't think I'm in a place to objectively evaluate the way you speak. With that being said I will not tolerate rudeness or ANY bm in round. I can handle a decent amount of speed but do not let speed trade off with quality.

Online debate I will be muted the entire round just assume I'm ready before every speech and time yourselves and your own prep. I will disclose if the tournament allows.

I'm a non-native speaker and a lay judge trying my best. So please present your case and argument clearly without speaking too fast. use evidence that people can understand and present it logically, rather than citing a lot of sources without analysis and losing your audience.

Well, I myself didn't have any debate experience at all. I've been judging public forum debates in the past several years, but I still consider myself a lay judge.

With that being said, my final decision usually heavily depends on your own summary and final focus. You help me to understand why you are winning, including why your team's contentions still hold while your opponent's do not.

I prefer you talking in a relatively slow pace but it's totally up to you to make yourself comfortable.

Debated 4 years of PF for Marriotts Ridge. I will flow the round.

I am new to judging PF and LD. I will try to take notes of arguments but am not familiar with more complicated theory. Typically should be ok if explained well. Please do not spread as I will not follow your arguments. I sometimes have hard time following if you are going at 100mph. So I appreciate if you speak slowly.

You need the support your arguments through evidence but that evidence must also be explained and impacted for me to evaluate it. I do not prefer advanced framing or philosophical debates but would prefer an in depth discussion of the topic.

Civility is the key. Please do not be rude to your opponents or speak over them. Debate should be a civic forum and open to all. Please remain respectful at all times.
