I’m a parent judge who has judged PF for four years. This paradigm was influenced by my son. I flow important points throughout the round.

Preferences:

1. Have both warrants and impacts backed up by evidence in your case. Carry them through the round if you want me to vote on them.

2. Do comparative weighing in summary AND final focus, this is important. Don’t use buzzwords.

3. If you want me to vote on an argument, it must be in summary AND final focus.

4. Don’t speak too quickly. If I can’t understand you, you won’t win my ballot.

5. Be respectful, especially in crossfire, or I will dock speaker points.

6. No new arguments in final focus, they will not be considered. Bring them up earlier in the round so your opponents can respond to them.

7. Have all evidence ready to show your opponents. Don’t take too long when evidence is asked for.

8. Signpost throughout your speeches. This also includes short offtime roadmaps. It makes it much easier to flow.

9. Clearly explain your arguments in each speech, do not just assume I have a prior understanding of every argument. I do some reading on the topic before the tournament, but I am by no means an expert.

10. Don’t run progressive arguments (Ks, theory), I don’t know how to evaluate them.

Speaker Points (adjusted based on division):

<26: Very poor OR offensive, rude, tried to cheat, etc.

26-26.9: Below Average

27-27.9: Average

28-28.9: Above Average

29-29.5: Great

29.6-30: Amazing

** Assume that I am a flow judge, but lay on the topic

If you want me to vote on an argument, it has to be in summary and final focus.

I appreciate world comparisons, weighing, and logically explained arguments.

I do not like speed. I will not flow your arguments if I do not understand what you are saying.

I will decide your speaks based on the clarity and content of your speech.

***Before you start your speech tell me which side of the flow you are starting on, and sign post clearly as you go along.

***Don't be a jerk.

Hello everybody!

I am a parent judge, but that doesn't mean much. I still takes notes during debates and love Public Forum. With that in mind, I do have some preferences

1)Cards

I am fully aware that there might be some cards that I have never heard of, but I will still be able to tell whether there is an anomaly in the card. Please do not use any added evidence or cards that you do not find necessary and vital to the debate.

2)Speakers

I am a very avid listener, but I still need you to enunciate the words that you would like me to listen to and flow through the debate. Please only emphasize those words that will be very important for me to flow through the debate.

3)Crossfire

Crossfire is very important to me as a judge, but I will not flow anything through unless you flow it through as well. This doesn't mean that you can be aggressive during crossfire. I will take away speaker points for those who are being very rude or aggressive, but please emphasize to me what the other team is doing wrong.

Hello! I'm Henry, a freshman in college. I did debate for 8 years. 5 of those years were PF. I enjoy fun debate rounds, and I don't think I'm a very picky judge. That being said, here are some things you should keep in mind:

Be respectful.

I don't flow the authors of cards, so if you refer to a card solely by it's author without any reminder of what it says, there's a good chance I won't know what you're talking about.

I won't vote on any argument that's not mentioned in Final Focus. That doesn't mean I will vote on every argument mentioned in Final Focus. If your opponent rebuts one of your arguments, and you don't address that rebuttal, I won't count your argument even if you mention it in Final Focus (in other words, no flowing through ink).

On the other hand, if you make 6 rebuttals to one argument, and your opponent responds to the first 5, it is probably healthy to remind me about the sixth response that didn't get responded to and to assume I don't remember it perfectly (you don't have to restate the whole rebuttal. just give me a reminder).

I listen to crossfire but I don't flow it. So if you want something from cross to get on my flow, you had better bring it up later.

If I don't understand an argument or rebuttal, I won't consider it. Don't worry too much about this though--I'm not stupid.

Please please please please please signpost. I honestly don't even care if you roadmap or not as long as you signpost really clearly.

I have a bit of background on this topic, but not a whole ton.

I consider content when awarding speaker points (you have to sound like you're saying smart and convincing things and actually say smart and convincing things).

T: Show violation and standards; will for topicality against non topical apps

DA: Show uniqueness(UQ), link(L), and impact

CP: show net benefit and prove how they solve the aff. Type of CP.

K: Show link, impact and alt.

FW: any kind is fine to me.

3) If you have extra prep time left, I will award you higher speaker points.

4) Do not be blatantly racist, homophobic, sexist or are in any other way discriminatory in the debate space.

-Time yourself, I will also keep time and will stop flowing when you run out of time

-I do prefer when you stand when giving speeches

-I vote on impacts. Provide warrants and evidence for your claims. Extend these through final focus.

-Please cut your cards in advance - if you can't find your card quickly, I will assume it does not exist and strike it from my flow

-I expect you to frontline, and please weigh in final focus

-I will not flow crossfire, if it is important bring it back in your speeches.
