10.16.26 VCHS Novice Day Invite - Friday, October 16, 2026

Entries are $6 per team.

We plan to offer a $5 lunch meal deal; more information will be provided closer to the tournament.

The tournament will be 3 rounds, with the top 8 novice teams medaling.

Judges → 1 judge per 2 teams [1-2 teams = 1 Judge, 3-4 teams - 2 judges, 5-6 teams = 3 judges, ect.]

ROUND SCHEDULE

Registration 7:15 AM

Round 1: 8:00-9:45 AM

Round 2: 10:00-11:30 AM

Lunch: 11:30 AM-12:15 PM

Round 3: 12:15-2:00 PM

Awards: Grab and GO

KSHSAA rules apply. Third-year and fourth-year debaters may judge the novice rounds.

TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. All teams will be debating this year’s resolution: Resolved: The United States federal government should establish national health insurance in the United States.

2. All debates will use the standard 8-3-5 cross-examination format with 8 minutes for prep time

per team, per round.

3. Novice team composed of two individuals for whom this is the first year of policy debate for both members.

4. Any team more than 10 minutes late to the round (through their own fault) will receive a loss on 3-4.

5. No two debaters from different schools may debate together as a team.

6. The tab room will be open. Awards are grab and go.

7. No Mavericks.
