Policy Debate |
We will use the varsity topics for all debate events:
LD: Resolved: Outer space colonization is a moral imperative.
PF: Resolved: The United States federal government should enact a moratorium on hyperscale data center construction.
Policy: Resolved: The United States federal government should establish national health insurance in the United States.
Novice Case Limits for Policy:
Medicare for All — this affirmative is a single-payer, government-run system eliminating private insurance to cover everyone. It would be based on the current Medicare model.
Revise/Expand the Affordable Care Act — this affirmative would strengthen the 2010 Affordable Care Act, likely by strengthening the individual mandate and restoring federal subsidies for marketplace health insurance plans.
Single Payer Option to Replace Private Health Insurance— this affirmative is also a single-payer, government-run system eliminating private insurance to cover everyone, but it would not necessarily be based on the existing Medicare model
Congress will be run following CHSAA rules. A docket will be provided on Tabroom two weeks before the tournament begins. Students who participate should dress up in costume and deliver their speeches in character. One judge will act as presiding officer, and a second judge will be in the room to evaluate and score the debaters. Awards will be given by the judge to the top three in each of the following categories: Best costume, Best acting, Best arguments, Best overall.
This tournament will be judged by varsity student competitors (minimum of 50 NSDA points).
We offer unlimited entries in all events; however, you must provide enough varsity judges to cover all of your entries (one judge for every six speech/interp entries and one for every two debate entries).
We will award ribbons for the top six competitors in each event.
Pizza and soda will be provided for judges at lunchtime.
Pizza and snacks will be available at the concessions stand in our cafeteria for all competitors.
An adult coach must be present to chaperone your team during the competition. Jimmy John’s subs, chips, and drinks will be provided for coaches at lunchtime.
Teams arriving after 8:30 who have not phoned in may miss Round I. If you’re running late, please call 970-631-2693 before 8:30. Thanks!
Thank you everyone for supporting the Collins Clash novice edition!
