Novice Debate Info

Novice Workshop: Novice debate competitors (NCX, NPF, and NLD), unlike open competitors, will have 4 prelim rounds. During rounds 1 and 2 of Open debate events, we will feature a free-of-charge novice clinic led by the staff and competitors of the John R. Park Debate Society. Students will receive starter evidence, cases, and more on our website before the tournament begins. NOVICE COMPETITION WILL BEGIN ON FRIDAY NIGHT after clinics conclude.

Novice Eligibility: No competitor in the Novice division should have more than one year of forensics experience. A year means that the student has competed in either more than three tournaments per semester OR 5 tournaments over the course of an academic year.

Novice Policy Argument List: The tournament will abide by the novice argument lists in CX debate (NOVICE CX ARGUMENT STRATEGIES ARE LIMITED IN UTAH) established by the Utah Debate Coaches Association. These are nearly identifical to the argument list created by the NDCA, just without the Kritik and Theory arguments.You can access the argument list and evidence files HERE.
