Technology Tips for Online Debating

Connection Tips

• If you can, plug your computer in to your home’s router with an ethernet connection

• If you are using wireless, locate as close as you reasonably can to the router

• If you have a bad connection, minimize the amount of traffic.

•  Ask people in your home not to stream Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc

•  Under Video Settings, uncheck Enable HD

•   

Tech Time

• In addition to prep time, each team will have 5 minutes of tech time per round to address technology issues.

Cameras and Microphones

• Cameras should be left on at all times. This includes specifically the judge and both teams of competitors.

• Microphones should be muted if you are not speaking. The question periods (CX) should be the only time when both teams are unmuted.

• If background noise is an issue, make sure your mouth is close the microphone. Remember to project in to the microphone.
• If any issues arise mid round, open the chat window to communicate the issues to the judge and other team. Move to address and fix the problem as quickly as possible.
