Tuscaloosa City Schools Middle School Debate Invitational

2019 — Tuscaloosa, AL/US

Important Information

Important Tournament Information:

Entries

Entries are encouraged as soon as possible, and frozen on Thursday, November 14th. Enter your students and judges via tabroom.com.  We only have one event, public forum debate, to simplify the tournament process and organization for this inaugural year.

Fees

This tournament is a free tournament.  There is no fee for participation. We ask that you provide a judge for your squad, but you will not be charged for either entries or for the ratio of judges to competitors.

Location

We will be operating out of the Reese Phifer building, which is near the stadium, on the corner of University Blvd and Colonial Dr.  There will be parking available in our faculty lots near the stadium, and, perhaps, directly behind the building as well, though this is uncertain.  Reese Phifer will feature our debate round rooms, our registration and information table (found in the rotunda on the 2nd floor, near the quad), a judges lounge, a catered lunch for competitors, and individual team rooms in which students can relax between rounds.

Rules and competition

We will follow all National Speech and Debate Association rules for all events. See the NSDA high school unified manual for more information. As it regards to Public Forum, we will be using the new PF changes, which adds an extra minute to both Summary speeches (now 3 minutes) and both teams' prep time (now 3 minutes). Furthermore, we will also be allowing the use of internet in round. However, do not be reliant on this in case of technology failure.

Food

We will be supplying lunch for all participants, judges, and coaches. Soft drinks and snacks are also available in our vending machines.  If you have food allergies or have significant dietary restrictions, contact the tournament director and make a backup plan.
