Rule Clarifications and Debate Topics

PROCEDURE CLARIFICATIONS

-For Public Forum, we will assign sides for all prelim rounds, and aff will always speak first. Coin flips will be used in elims for rounds that are not sidelocked, and aff will always speak first.

-For Lincoln Douglas, each debater will have 4 minutes of prep during the round.

-For Parliamentary debate, we follow college debate norms, so we allow internet prep, coach prep, and team/group prep. We will also use the following times for speeches 7-8-8-8-4-5, with points of information only allowed in the first four speeches, and only after the first minute, and before the last minute of each speech. For all prelim rounds of parli, all varsity debates will occur in Flight A, and all novice rounds will occur in Flight B.

-For TI, we will allow speeches that qualify as both a TI and a POI into this event. Depending on the size of this event, we may collapse Novice TI into Open TI.

-For OO, we will allow speeches that qualify as both an OO and OA into this event.

-For Extemporaneous Speaking, we will be combining both National and International topics in this event. Internet will be allowed during prep.

-Aside from the exceptions specified above, NSDA standards shall inform our processes and procedures for NSDA events, NPDA standards for Parliamentary debate.
