Speech Tournament Procedures
As required by the NSDA, we will hold three preliminary rounds of competition in every speech event using two-judge panels.
The NSDA requires that a minimum of 25% of event entries break to elimination rounds.
These are the break rules we will employ for the 2024 tournament:
Events with fewer than 12 entries will break directly to finals at 2:30pm (with the top 6 advancing to finals) while we will break the top 50% of the field in events with 12 or more entries. If only six entries break, we will proceed directly to finals at 2:30pm. If more than six entries break, we will proceed to semi-finals at 2:30pm and finals (top 6) at 4:30pm.
We will use two-judge panels in prelims; three-judge panels in semis; and five-judge panels in finals.
