Student / Coach Awards

We have decided to use tabroom to facilitate voting and submissions for our awards.

What this means for you:

1. You must enter any student you'd like considered into the All-American division.
2. Please submit entries for the Academic All-American and the Emerging Debater awards for the relevant event on Tabroom.
3. Enter your voting delegates in the voting delegate category. This should include all of your varsity debaters (student choice awards) and your single voting delegate for the All-American awards.

Ballots for AA will open the week of the tournament.

Student Choice Award ballots will be released on Elim day.

Student Awards: The Grand Prix will offer a comprehensive set of recognitions for participation in College Lincoln-Douglas debate. The All-American team will be awarded a physical trophy. Other honorifics will be announced at awards and posted on the Grand Prix website. ldgrandprix.com


Academic Recognition:

The organization will honor students who maintain strong academic records in addition to their competitive accomplishments. There is no minimum or maximum number of students eligible for these awards. To be eligible a student must have attained junior standing, competed in at least 3 tournaments on the current topic, and meet the minimum unweighted grade point average for that specific award.


A - National Debate Scholar - Summa Cum Laude. Minimum 3.75 GPA.

B - National Debate Scholar - Magna Cum Laude. Minimum 3.5 GPA.

C - National Debate Scholars - Cum Laude. Minimum 3.25 GPA.


Student Choice Award:

The organization will honor one student, selected by their peers, who by virtue of their competitive outcomes, work ethic, willingness to help others, and care for collegiality and community has distinguished themselves as an excellent example of a college debater.


Emerging Debater Award:

The organization will honor up to 3 students, nominated by their coaches and selected by vote of the College LD Coaches Association, who have demonstrated strong competitive outcomes, work ethic, willingness to be receptive to judge feedback, and care for collegiality and community and has distinguished themselves as an excellent example of an emerging college debate.

To be eligible for the Emerging Debater Award, students must be in good standing with their University, intend to attend the National Forensics Association National Tournament, and have attended at least 3 events using NFA-LD rules in the Novice or Junior Varsity Division on the current topic.


All-American Award:

At least 10 and not to exceed 10 percent of the Varsity division of the College LD Grand Prix shall be awarded as a member of that year’s All-American team. The All-American team shall be selected by a public rank order of the competitors in the pool. Each school in attendance is afforded one vote. The tie-breaking procedure will be as follows: raw average rank, adjusted* sum of ranks, adjusted average rank.

All coaches attending the tournament are eligible sans the immediate past winner (Justin Kirk).

Ballots will be sent out to all LD Coaches Association members who will rank order the nominees. The tie-breaking procedure will be as follows: raw average rank, adjusted* sum of ranks, adjusted average rank. *adjusted means dropping the highest and lowest rank.

Judge of the Year Award

This will go to the individual in the judge pool with the lowest average ranking. Each LD entry effectively has one "vote".
