Divisions and Eligibility Rules

General Eligibility Rules

Both school/academy affiliated and independent entries are allowed. While students are encouraged to enter with a partner, mavericks (one person debating by themselves) may compete. Students who do not have a partner and wish to be assigned one may fill out this form.

Divisions may be collapsed based on entries.

Middle School Division

All middle school (6th through 8th grade) students may compete in the middle school division.

Novice Division

Any middle or high school student (9th through 12 grade) who has attended fewer than 4 debate (including Congress) tournaments may enter in the novice division.

Open Division

Any middle or high school student can enter in this division.
