Saturday Events - Pairing and Tabulation

This page will outline the plans for each Saturday event, depending on entry numbers. Events listed in each category are subject to change.

Judges per round:

Prelims = 1 judge
Semifinals = 2 judges
Finals = 3 judges

All tabulation is cumulative of all ballots throughout the tournament.

Prelim tiebreakers are, in order:

1) Total Ranks
2) Reciprocal Ranks
3) (If needed to break a tie) Average Opponent Rank

Semifinal->Final tiebreakers, in order:

1) Total Ranks, all ballots
2) Ranks from the semifinal round only
3) Reciprocal Ranks, all ballots
4) Reciprocal Ranks, semifinal round only
5) Prelim Seed

Final tiebreakers, in order:

1) Total Ranks, all ballots
2) Judge Preference from the final round only
3) Total Ranks, elim ballots only
4) Reciprocal Ranks, all ballots
5) Prelim Seed

Single Room Events (1-7 entries)

Currently: INFO7, DUET

5 rounds, all prelims, 1 judge each

Non-NIETOC events

IMP, POE, PRO

3 prelim rounds

Break to semifinals - if entry numbers are 70 or fewer, top 12 break; if 71 or more, top 24 break

Break to finals - will break at least 6 and as many as 8

NIETOC finals bids (35-50 entries)

Currently: HI, DI

3 prelim rounds

Break top 12 to semifinals (plus ties)

Break top 8 to finals (hard cut)

NIETOC semifinals bids (51-70 entries)

Currently: DX, DUO, POI, OO

3 prelim rounds

Break top 12 to semifinals (plus ties)

Break to finals - at least 6 and as many as 8

NIETOC quarterfinals bids (71-100 entries)
