Event Rules

DEBATE:

LD and PF will be using the January topic areas

Disclosure is required in all debate events. Please do not give oral critiques, just say who won and then the students can leave

SPEECH:

The following speech events will follow NSDA Rules: Persuasive Speaking, Informative, Program Oral Interp, Extemporaneous*, Commentary, Impromptu, Dramatic Interp, Humorous Interp

*Extemporaneous Speaking will run a CX portion in the final round.

The following speech events will follow PHSSL Rules: Prose, Poetry

Supplemental Speech Events will be free of charge beginning on Saturday morning for competitors of debate who did not make break rounds, or any other competitor registered beforehand. Impromptu will following NSDA Rules. Radio Broadcasting will be run as follows:

Contestants will deliver a 2-minute, tournament-created radio broadcast of current events news. Contestants will have 5 minutes to prepare with the script to practice reading and to align their pace with the style of the broadcast In the Final round, contestants will be tasked with cutting a longer script down to a 2-minute time frame, with extended prep time. Contestants will deliver their speeches to the judges alone, with the rest of the competitors waiting outside the room.
