DUDA MS Workshop Preliminary Schedule - Saturday, September 10

Students will choose one of four tracks:

A = Beginner World Schools Debate (first year in the activity)

B = Advanced World Schools Debate (second year in the format OR previous Policy experience)

C = Beginner Policy Debate (first year in the activity)

D = Advanced Policy Debate (at least one year of prior debate experience)

8:30-9:15 am - Arrival/Check-in/Breakfast

9:15 - 10:30 am - Session 1 - Debate Games and Format Introduction

Option A - Beginner WS Debate - Debate games and Intro to Format

Option B - Advanced WS Debate - Debate games with impromptu motions

Option C - Beginner Policy Debate - Mini Debates (Fun Topics) Intro to Format

Option D - Advanced Policy Debate - Mini Debates (Fun Topics) Intro to the NATO topic, Format Recap

10:30 - 10:45 am - Break/Move to Session 2

10:45 am - 12:00 pm - Session 2 - Skills and Strategies

Option A - Beginning WS Debate - Introduction to Prepared Motions/Case Writing and October motion

Option B - Advanced WS Debate - Work on prepared motion for October tournament

Option C - Beginner Policy Debate - How to win a debate: Strategy 101

Option D - Advanced Policy Debate - Modular Debate/Notation Practice/CX Questions

12:00 - 12:45 pm - Lunch - Cafeteria

*Mini WS Demo Round in Auditorium (students grab lunch then move to auditorium)

*Mini Policy Round in Cafeteria (students grab lunch then stay in cafeteria)

12:45 - 2:00 - Session 3 - Application

Option A - Beginning WS Debate - Impromptu Prep process and practice

Option B - Advanced WS Debate - Impromptu practice with focus on speaker roles

Option C - Beginning Policy Debate - Using the Core Files to Construct a Case

Option D - Advanced Policy Debate - File Construction + Spar Debates

2:00 - 2:30 - Closing
