2022 REGIONAL DEBATE TOURNAMENT

 

        

ACTIVITY:                              VHSL 6C Regional Debate Tournament

PARTICIPANTS:                    All participants must be registered by 5:00pm on Friday, March 11, 2022.  Schools may enter 2 Policy Debate Teams, 2 Public Forum Debate Teams, 3 Lincoln-Douglas Debaters, and 6 Congressional Debaters. 

                                               Registration requires entry of your competitors and judges on Tabroom as well as submmission of the  VHSL Reg. form.

RULES:                                  The competitors must comply with VHSL eligibility requirements and

                                                VHSL event rules.  Student Congress requires each congressional debater

submit legislation on the VHSL website by the deadline set by VHSL. If

legislation is not submitted by the deadline, the debaters are disqualified.

 

All participants, judges, coaches, and observers must comply with the COVID mitigation measures of the host school.  If a visiting school has additional mitigation measures, it is the responsibility of the coach or chaperon of that school to monitor and enforce those measures.

 

JUDGES:                                Neutral judges will be selected by the tournament directors. Pairings in debate will be by VHSL tournament rules.   Please bring 1 qualified judge for each event in which you have a debater entered.  For example, if you have a public forum team, an L-D competitor, a policy team, and students competing in Congress, you must bring four adults who know how to judge.  The tournament director may move judges between events if necessary.  Please include your judges’ names with your registration form and enter them on Tabroom.

 

EVENT WINNERS:                In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, first, second, third, and fourth place winners will

advance to the Super-Regional Tournament.  In Policy Debate and Public Forum Debate, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams will advance to the Super-Regional Tournament.  Congress advances the top 12 debaters to the Super-Regional Tournament.

TEAM CHAMPION:               The team with the greatest number of place points in all debate divisions will be declared the Regional Champion.  First place is worth 7 points, second place is worth 5 points, third place is worth 3 points, fourth is worth 1 point.  If there is a tie, speaker points will be used to break the tie.

           

AWARDS:                              Tournament medals will be awarded to those speakers qualifying to the                

Super-regional Tournament. 

 

ENTRY DEADLINES:            VHSL regional registration forms are available on the VHSL website.  All forms must be electronically sent to the Marie Bakke no later than Friday, March 11, 2022 at 5:00pm, at mabakke@fcps.edu  Please include the names of your judges and any school affiliations with your registration form.  All entries and judges must also be entered on Tabroom by March 11, 2022, 5:00pm.

 

TOURNAMENT RESULTS:   All final results and Super-Regional Tournament qualifiers will become official 60 minutes following the announcement of the results at the awards ceremony.  A school that leaves the tournament forfeits the right to appeal or correct results. 

 

 

SUPER-REGIONAL REPLACEMENT POLICY

 

A fourth-place team in Policy Debate and Public Forum Debate, a fifth-place speaker in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and the three highest scoring Congressional Debaters who did not qualify to the Super-regional Tournament, will be named as replacements to the Super-regional Tournament, if needed. 

 

No replacements beyond these alternates are permitted.  It is the responsibility of the coach of the school with a qualified debater NOT participating in the Super-regional Tournament to notify, in a timely manner, the Super-regional Tournament Director of the need for a replacement.
