1. All coaches, judges, and students should familiarize themselves with tabroom.com prior to the tournament. Tabroom provides a number of different guides appropriate to help coaches, judges, and students at this site.

2. Please stay up to date on emails and messages. It is coaches' responsibility to pass along necessary material to their students and judges.

3. Competition will take place "live" through NSDA Campus (with Tabroom.com). Students must attend rounds and perform their speeches for judges each round using the video conferencing platform through Tabroom.com.

4. Please see our SDIVSL technical guidance sheet(TGS) for guidance related to technical difficulties. Specific contact points for difficulties during the tournament will be posted.

Entry Limitations:

This tournament is open only to schools in the San Diego Imperial Valley Speech League. This tournament will offer an Open division in all events.

Each competitor may enter up to four events, with a maximum of two in any pattern (those entering either Extemp may not enter another Pattern B event).

Judges:

All judges must have a Tabroom account linked to a school. Each school is required to provide 1 judge per 5 entries based on the pattern in which they have the larger number of entries. Schools not meeting their judging commitment will be required to drop entries to match their available judges.

Please read the instructions regarding how to enter judges for this tournament. When you enter your judges, you are able to mark shifts that your judges are not available. Be sure that you let your judges know that they need to check in to the judges' room online, and log in at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the round. Also, let them know that time blocks are estimates and actual end times will be determined by the progression of the tournament.

Do not wait until the last minute to confirm your judges. They will need time to become acquainted with the log in procedure. Also, it is time consuming for tournament officials to have to manually add your judges during the tournament if you didn't straighten it all out in advance.

Entry Deadline

Entries must be posted on www.forensicstournament.net by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 24. No new teams or students may add after the entry deadline. The only changes allowed after the entry deadline is dropping entries (see below).

Drops

Dropped entries will be accepted without charge until Wednesday, January 26, at 5:00 p.m. After that time, the website will be closed and entry fees will be final. Please email (bsiscon@guhsd.net) or call in (619-578-3555) your drops after the drop deadline, even as late as on your way to the tournament, to obviate excessive changes at the beginning of the tournament. When calling in or emailing drops, be sure to give the speaker’s name, event, and your school clearly.

Rounds

Two preliminary rounds will be held in each event. In any event in which there are 28 or more competitors, there will be a break to semi-finals and the top 14 students will advance (there may be more semi-finalists, depending on number of entries). In any event in which there are fewer than 28 competitors, a third preliminary round will be held. The top seven speakers in each event will break to a final round.

Awards

Suitable recognition will be given to all finalists. Team sweepstakes points will be accumulated for League #3A, B, and C, and awarded at League #3C. Trophies will be given to the top 3 teams earning the most sweepstakes points, then class trophies will be awarded as warranted. (The number of class trophies is dependent upon the number of teams competing in the tournaments. Classes are determined by number of entries - teams are divided into classes based on their number of entries as compared to other teams entered in the tournament. This will vary from tournament to tournament.)
