The 2021 Holy Cross Navy and Old Gold Novice and Congressional Debate and Speech Exhibition

Dear Directors of Forensics, Coaches, and Students

As many of you know, we hosted the Navy and Old Gold on our traditional weekend, but decided to split off the novice and junior divisions to allow our local Southeast Louisiana students, many of whom were still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Ida, more time to prepare after the loss of several weeks of school. 

So, on behalf of Holy Cross School, Interim Headmaster Eric DesOrmeaux ’95, and the Brother Aiden O’Reilly CSC Debating Society we invite you and your team to the 2021 Navy and Old Gold Novice and Congressional Debate and Junior Speech Exhibition, featuring the Byron R. Arthur Novice Debates, to be held on Friday November 12^th and Saturday November 13^th 2021.  The tournament will consist of competition in Novice Policy Debate, Novice Lincoln Douglas Debate, and Novice Public Forum Debate.  We will also offer Legislative Debating for all levels.  Speech competition will be held in Declamation, and Novice (Junior) divisions of Extemporaneous Speaking, Impromptu,  and Oral Interpretation of Literature. (Louisiana State defines this as 9th and 10th grade).

In Novice Lincoln Douglas and Novice Public Forum, we will be using the NSDA November/December topics.  Novice Policy will use the NSDA 2021-22 topic.

We appreciate the consistent support that we have received through the years and as such our tournament has continued to grow.  We hope to keep this going even in these unusual times and look forward to hosting you all, virtually, in November.

The Holy Cross Navy and Old Gold will not be considering independents for entry. Please ensure your coach or other adult representative signs you up through your school and that you can meet the judging requirement or can hire rounds.
