Congressional Extemp Instructions & Topics

 

Round #1: 
Whereas many athletic events will be disrupted from the later end time for school. 
and whereas many students will lose valuable learning time from leaving the last period of the day early.  
Whereas many parents work and cannot find suitable childcare for the change in hours. 
Therefore, be it resolved that the 8:30am start time instituted for schools next year be outlawed. 
 
 
Round #2: 
Whereas many traffic accidents are caused by those under the age of 18.
Whereas insurance rates have skyrocketed tremendously and have become unaffordable. 
Therefore, be it resolved that from this day forward, driver's licenses will only be issued to those on or after their 18th birthday. 
 
 
Round #3: 
Whereas students are less and less prepared for the academic rigor in college.
And whereas many colleges have to offer remedial courses in Math for students to catch up. 
Whereas taking and passing English for four years in high school is already required for high school graduation. 
Therefore, be it resolved that four years of Math will now be required as a high school graduation requirement. 

 

Congressional Extemp Event Description 

8 people in a room-- paneled just like other events

 

Each round has a different topic which will be posted on the league website the week of the tournament

 

Round 1:  EXAMPLE TOPIC: The SAT should be abolished

 

Room 106

 

1.    1801 (AFF)    1st speaker will ALWAYS be AFF, 2nd always NEG, 3rd always AFF...etc.

 

2.    1806 (NEG) 

 

3.    1809 (AFF)

 

4.    1804 (NEG)

 

5.    1803 (AFF)

 

·       Speaker #1 gives an AFF speech (4 minutes) and is then questioned by the last speaker (2 min Cross-X)

 

·       Speaker #2 gives a NEG speech and is then questioned by the first speaker

 

·       CX is set up just like final round of Extemps at State Quals, State, Nat Quals, Nationals
