1. All coaches, judges, and students should familiarize themselves with tabroom.com and classrooms.cloud prior to the tournament. Tabroom provides a number of different guides appropriate to help coaches, judges, and students at this site. Here are some basic tips from classrooms.cloud

2. Please stay up to date on emails and messages. It is coaches' responsibility to pass along necessary material to their students and judges.

3. Please see our SDIVSL technical guidance sheet(TGS) for guidance related to technical difficulties. Specific contact points for difficulties during the tournament will be posted.

AS A REMINDER, for 2020-21, there will be NO GRACE PERIOD FOR PREPARED EVENTS. Video submissions must be no longer than 10 minutes long, from start of recording to finish (not only speaking time - we are measuring video time). Any entry longer than 10 minutes will be disallowed. They will be given the opportunity to re-record, but if final submission is more than 10 minutes, they will not be allowed to compete.

Entry Limitations:

This tournament is open only to schools in the San Diego Imperial Valley Speech League. This tournament will offer a Varsity division and a Novice division in all events.

Each competitor may enter up to four events, with a maximum of two in any pattern (those entering either Extemp may not enter another Pattern B event).

The Novice division is limited to students who have not competed in a high school speech or debate tournament in a previous school year.

Judges:

All judges must have a Tabroom account linked to a school. Each school is required to provide 1 judge per 5 entries based on the pattern in which they have the larger number of entries. Schools not meeting their judging commitment will be required to drop entries to match their available judges. Required number of judges must be present one round past the elimination of the school's final competitor (this means that if even one student from your school is in semifinals or the 3rd round, all of your judges are obligated through finals).

When you enter your judges, you are able to mark shifts that your judges are not available. Be sure that you let your judges know that they need to check in to the judges' room online, and log in at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the round. Also, let them know that time blocks are estimates and actual end times will be determined by the progression of the tournament. Here is a video to show you how to enter judges.

Do not wait until the last minute to confirm your judges. They will need time to become acquainted with the log in procedure. Also, it is time consuming for tournament officials to have to manually add your judges during the tournament if you didn't straighten it all out in advance.

Entry Deadline

Entries must be posted on www.forensicstournament.net by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16. No new teams or students may add after the entry deadline. The only changes allowed after the entry deadline is dropping entries (see below).

Drops

Dropped entries will be accepted without charge until Wednesday, October 21, at 5:00 p.m. After that time, the website will be closed and entry fees will be final. Please email (bsiscon@guhsd.net) or call in (619-578-3555) your drops after the drop deadline, even as late as on your way to the tournament, to obviate excessive changes at the beginning of the tournament. When calling in or emailing drops, be sure to give the speaker’s name, event, and your school clearly.

Rounds

Two preliminary rounds will be held in each event. In any event in which there are 28 or more competitors, there will be a break to semi-finals and the top 14 students will advance (there may be more semi-finalists, depending on number of entries). In any event in which there are fewer than 28 competitors, a third preliminary round will be held. The top seven speakers in each event, in each division, will break to a final round.

Awards

Suitable recognition will be given to all finalists. Team sweepstakes points will be accumulated for League #2A, B, and C, and awarded at League #2B. Trophies will be given to the top 3 teams earning the most sweepstakes points in the varsity division only, then class trophies will be awarded as warranted. Trophies will also be given to the top 3 teams earning the most sweepstakes points in the novice division only, then class trophies will be awarded as warranted. (The number of class trophies is dependent upon the number of teams competing in the tournaments. Classes are determined by number of entries - teams are divided into classes based on their number of entries as compared to other teams entered in the tournament. This will vary from tournament to tournament.)
