Dear Debate Coach:     

You and your team are invited to the 24rd Annual Pam and Mark Joraanstad (PMJ) Debate Tournament at Shanley High School, Friday-Saturday, January 5-6, 2018

 

COMPETITION:           

*Lincoln Douglas and Public Forum will be offered

*All types of debate will offer Divisions I, II, and III (depending on numbers). 

*Standard time limits will be followed per the NDHSAA debate rulebook. 

*Public-Forum and Lincoln Douglas will debate the January topics as listed on speechanddebate.org.

*Rounds begin at 3:45 on Friday and resume at 8:00 am on Saturday morning.

*Please do not arrive prior to 3:00. Teams must stay in the commons until school is dismissed at 3:30.

JUDGES:        

*Teams need to provide judges: One judge covers up to 3 debaters/entries in PF and LD.

*ALL Judges need to be NDHSAA Certified to Judge in North Dakota. Please bring proof of certification for every judge with you.   Judges can complete certification on line at http://www.ndhsaa.com/

*Elimination rounds are included in the total numbers of rounds in the tournament even if your teams have been          eliminated.

*Judges will be scheduled to judge a variety of levels of debate (Division I, II and III).

*A very limited number of judges are available for hire at a rate of $150.00.
If the judges you list are only able to judge novice, please indicate this on the registration form. If judges can only judge LD or PF, please also note this.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE ANY SCHOOL CONFLICTS OR INDIVIDUAL DEBATER CONFLICTS FOR JUDGE.


ROUNDS:        

*Rounds will be powered and elimination rounds scheduled as the registration warrants.

*A schedule including the powering and elimination schedule will be available at registration.

CONCESSIONS:

*Food will be available for purchase Friday evening, Saturday morning, and Saturday afternoon.

            *Our parent boosters are planning a great menu, so plan to eat at Shanley.

            *Supper, breakfast, and lunch will be provided in the judge’s lounge for coaches and hired judges.

TAB ROOM:

*We will be contacting individuals to help in the tab room for the tournament.

                *Some coaches help in the tab room, if you would like to be considered, please contact Pennie Fike. 

*Anyone assisting with tabulation will count as a complete judge slot for their school.

*If you prefer to NOT work in the tab room, please indicate this in your registration.

 

DEADLINE:      Registration is due by Dec. 29, 2017. Final changes may be made up until 12:00 noon on                             January 3m 2018. After 12:00 noon, fees will be assessed.
