Debate Tournament – Saturday, January 6, 2018

Dear Debate Coaches:

You are warmly invited to attend the annual winter debate tournament to be held at the Savannah Center (3400 N. Broadway Avenue, Gary, IN 46408) on the Northwest campus of Indiana University on Saturday, Jan 6, 2018.  The tournament will feature four rounds of policy, Lincoln-Douglas, public forum, world school, and congressional debate in two divisions: varsity (open to all debaters) and novice (reserved for debaters in their first year of competition).  Congressional debate will be in two chambers (AM and PM) and will debate bills #2, #3, #8, and #11.  Chambers will decide their own order of business and elect their own presiding officers.

World School will debate the prepared topic:  This House supports an independent Kurdistan.

Registration will begin at 7:30 AM inside the main entrance to the Savannah Center (follow the signs).  Rounds will be run at 8:30 AM (I), 10:00 AM (II), 12:30 PM (III) and 2:30 PM (IV).  Awards will begin at 4:30 PM and we hope to have everyone back on the road by 5:00 PM.  Recognition will be given to the top eight (8) debaters or teams in each event.

Schools are required to bring one judge for every two (2) policy teams, one judge for every four (4) LD debaters and PF teams, and one judge for every six (6) congressional debaters (or fraction thereof).  Bringing extra judges will result in you receiving much respect and admiration from your fellow coaches!

Food will be available for purchase through the various vendors that operate in the Savannah Center, which is the IUN student center.  Lunch, snacks and beverages are to be sold; there will not be a stocked judges’/coaches’ lounge.
