The Edina High School Debate team invites you to attend our third annual:

Edina Classic Debate Tournament

Events offered at the tournament will include Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, and Congressional Debate.  Our tournament is committed to the twin goals of EFFICIENCY and EDUCATION.  We hope that you will consider joining us!

Public Forum:
We will offer 3 divisions of PF debate – novice, JV, and varsity.

There will be awards for the top 5 teams in each division.  November 2017 PF topic will be used. 

We're planning to hold 5 rounds, plus a final round in Varsity.  Provide 1 judge for every 2 teams.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate:
All LD debaters will debate the November-December 2017 resolution.

We will offer three divisions of LD debate – novice, JV, and varsity.

There will be awards for the top 5 debaters in each division.  Five rounds, plus a final round in Varsity. 

Provide 1 judge for every 2 debaters.

Congressional Debate:
We will offer a single Open division of Congress (novices welcomed). 

Legislation will be made available prior to the tournament and will be posted on the MDTA website.  

Provide 1 judge for every 6 students in Congress.

Judges:
Be sure to cover all your entries.  Judges cannot cross between kinds of debate.

Please make sure that judges arrive on time. 

Teams that arrive without their full complement of judges will be charged a nuisance fee of $125.00 per missing judge.

Deadline for entry is 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 7th 

Please keep us informed of any changes to your entry or judging.  Drop-deadline is 5:00PM on Thursday November 9th. Any drops after this time will still owe the entry fee for dropped entries. 

Space is limited, so enter early to avoid being shut out.

We are keeping the website open for drops until 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.  After that point, any changes should be made at registration.  We want to have rounds organized and distributed well before our start time; letting us know of changes as soon as you know them will help us be on-time throughout the day.  Last minute changes can be e-mailed to Zach Prax at zachary.prax@district196.org

Food: 

We will have Concessions for purchase all day, and a Hospitality Lounge for Coaches and Judges.

Registration will occur in the Edina H.S. lobby at Door 5. 

Buses should drop off at the Main Entrance (door 5)

ALL COMPETITORS AND JUDGES MUST BE PRESENT BY 8:00 A.M.

Lincoln-Douglas & Public Forum Schedule:

Round 1:  8:30 a.m.

Round 2:  9:30 a.m.

Round 3:  10:45 a.m.

Round 4:  12:30 p.m.

Round 5:  2:00 p.m.

Varsity Final Round: 3:00 p.m.

Congressional Debate:

Session 1:  8:30-10:30 a.m.

Session 2: 10:45-12:45 p.m.

Super Session following Sessions 1 & 2
