Welcome to the registration site for the Minnesota State High School League Section 4 Debate Tournament!  There will not be much information posted on this page, as you will get everything you need to know via email from some combination of Zach Prax, DJ Brynteson, and your section rep (Liz Haen).

It is your responsibility to make sure that your students are eligible to compete in this tournament under MSHSL rules.  Also, note that you have zero judge obligations (and should not enter judges) as they are provided by the tournament.

TAB PROCEDURE

8 or fewer entries.  Round robin against each team.  6 rounds max.  No run off rounds in any event.

9 to 10 Entries.  Four preset rounds, one round against each school.  Rounds 5 and 6 hi/low pairing based on MSHSL rules. 

11 + entries.  Rounds 1 and 2 preset.  Rounds 3 to 6 are hi/low pairing based on MSHSL rules.

In PF/LD Only.  If the 6th and 7th seeds after 6 rounds have a tied number of wins, then a final round will be run with the following pairings.  #6 seed vs #7, #5 vs #8, #4 vs #9, #3 vs #10, #2 vs #11, #1 vs #12.  If there are fewer than 12 entries, the top seeds would receive a BYE round 7.  For example, if only 9 entries, the #1, #2 and #3 seeds would receive a bye.  If there are more than 12 entries, the remaining entries will debate among themselves in a normal hi/low protocol.  For example, with 14 entries, the #13 and #14 would debate.  Sides for round #7 are set by the tabroom.  School hitting self is only reason to break the bracket.  In the event the bracket must be broken, protection is always given to the higher seed.  A team may debate for a second time on the opposite side.
