Coon Rapids High School Debate Tournament

The Coon Rapids High School debate team is excited to host a debate tournament for Public Forum, Lincoln­-Douglas, and Congressional debate on Saturday, November 5th, 2016.

 

RESOLUTIONS AND AWARDS

Public Forum will debate the November NSDA Resolution for five rounds, and will have awards for the top speaker in Novice, JV, and Varsity, and the top eight entries in Novice, JV, and Varsity. 

 

Lincoln-­Douglas will debate the November/December NSDA resolution for five rounds, and will have awards for the top speaker in Novice, JV, and Varsity, and the top five debaters in Novice, JV, and Varsity. 

 

Congressional Debate will observe NSDA rules for two sessions, and will have awards for the top eight debaters. All legislation is posted at MDTA.org.  Below is the list of Legislation for both preliminary and final chambers:  

Prelims:

1. A Resolution to Reform Sanctuary Cities
 
2. A Bill to Subsidize CRISPR Research and Usage in Humans
 
3. A Resolution to Improve the United States' Public Prosecutors
 
4. A Bill to Abolish Birthright Citizenship
 
Finals:
 
1. A Bill to Provide Free Internet to Citizens of the USA
 
2. Immigration Reformation Act
 
3. A Bill to Protect American Autoworkers
 
4. A Bill to Ban the Use of Neonicotinoids
 

SCHEDULE INFO

Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. and runs through 8:15 a.m., with the first round or session beginning at 8:45 a.m.  Awards are tentatively scheduled for 3:30pm.

 

Please make sure your bus arrives by 8:15 so we can run schedules at 8:30.  If you would like to call in to confirm your registration on the morning of, please call Todd Mensink at 612­-581-3485.

 

FOOD

Pizza will be sold at lunch, and other concessions will be available throughout the day.  A judge’s lounge will be available. 

 

REGISTRATION

The cost of registration is $15 for each Public Forum team, $10 for each LD debater, and $5 for each Congressional debater. You must provide one judge for every 2 PF teams or fraction thereof.  You must provide one judge for every 2 LD debaters or fraction thereof.  You must provide one judge for judge/scorer/parliamentarian for every 6 congressional debaters or fraction thereof.  Schools arriving without the appropriate number of judges will have to reduce their entries.  The tournament host will not be able to provide judges.
