Concord Big Questions Debate

In conjunction with the Concord Novice Debate tournament, we will be hosting a Big Questions Debate Tournament.  Below is the information you will need to know:

1. This is a specialized style of debate being sponsored by the NSDA and the John Templeton Foundation. Please visit the NSDA website (www.speechanddebate.org) for information on the structure of a round as well as information about the topic.

2. The resolution to be debated is as follows:  Resolved: Science leaves no room for free will.

3. You may as many entries as you would like; however the event will be capped at 46.

4. Judge requirement is 1 judge per 4 entries or fraction thereof. (5 entries=2 judges) We are also hoping to have community members judging as well.

5. Debaters will need to be prepared to debate both sides of the topic and will alternate.

6. Debaters are guaranteed 4 rounds with the top 4 debaters after round 3 entering into a 2 round playoff to determine the top 3 debaters. 

7. Top 3 debaters will earn cash prizes. 1st place=$150.00 2nd place=$100.00 3rd place=$50.

Registration will begin at 7:00am EDT on October 8th with a mandatory judge meeting/training to begin at 8:00am in the Concord High School Media Center.  

Please NOTE: Per NSDA guidelines all participants and judges will be required to complete a brief survey about the experience at the end of the tournament.
