21st Fayette Classic

2016 — Fayetteville, GA/US

You are invited to attend the 21st Annual Fayette Classic held at Fayette County High School on October 7-8, 2016. Fayette County High School is located in historic Fayetteville, Georgia, thirty minutes south of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

We are excited to announce that the Fayette Classic was named a bid tournament to the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions, which will be held in Kansas City, Missouri from May 12-14, 2017.

The following events are eligible for NIETOC bids:

  • Oratory
  • Dramatic Interpretation
  • Humorous Interpretation
  • Duo Interpretation
  • Duet Acting

We also offer many other divisions for competition in debate and speech including:

  • Novice & Varsity Public Forum
  • Policy Debate
  • Novice & Varsity Lincoln Douglas
  • Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Program of Oral Interpretation
  • Impromptu
  • Open Chamber Congressional Debate
  • Big Questions Debate

We are pleased to offer Big Questions Debate, this year. Three rounds of this new NSDA event will occur Friday afternoon, and contestants can enter for free! Big Questions Debate focuses on some of society's fundamental beliefs. The event is funded through a grant from the John Templeton Foundation, therefore we encourage teams to participate. “Entries from participating schools and any judges they provide consent to the rules of the Big Questions event, including the format and topicality guidelines. Schools should provide their judges with access to the National Speech & Debate Association’s judge training resources prior to the tournament. Event resources for students and coaches are provided by the NSDA. Judges and competitors will also be asked to complete a brief survey before leaving the tournament site.” Rules for the event can be found in the link to the right.

Debate divisions with fewer than 10 entries will be collapsed to intensify the competition. Speech contestants will be permitted to double enter in any speech event. There will be an open chamber Congressional Debate on Friday afternoon and after preliminary rounds of speech and debate. Students are permitted to enter and exit the chamber as needed.

All judges will be required to have an individual Tabroom account and a device to judge on. We are very limited on the number of devices we can provide this year.

All contestants must remain on campus during the competition, so your team will not risk being late to their rounds. Being over 15 minutes late to a round can result in forfeiture. The Fayette Classic attempts to stay on schedule.

We hope to see you all here in October. If you need additional information or have any questions, feel free to contact me by phone, 404-316-5244, or email, Kelly.Beverly@mail.fcboe.org.
