Interleague Pride Tournament 2026
hosted by Hofstra University

This year, we are pleased to announce that this year’s Interleague Tournament will be hosted by Hofstra University, located at 900 Fulton Avenue, Hempstead, NY 11550. To reflect this new partnership, the tournament will be called the Interleague Pride Tournament, to call in the Hofstra Pride ethos and celebrate the well-earned pride in our community of communicators.

Events: We will offer ​the following speech events​: Declamation, Dramatic Performance, Duo Interpretation, JV​ and Varsity Extemp, JV ​and Varsity Oral Interpretation, Program​ Oral Interpretation​, and Original Oratory. ​There will be 3 preliminary rounds in speech, plus finals.​ We will also offer Congressional Debate. We will offer 2 sessions of Student Congress plus SuperSession​. Pending final registration numbers, we may run multiple sections of finals in any events that warrant it.

Registration: register for the tournament here on tabroom.com​ starting October 1st at 8am. New entries and judges are due by Wednesday, ​11/11 at 8pm. Drops and name changes may be conducted until 3:30pm on Friday, 1​1/13, Changes thereafter must be communicated to the co-Tournament Director via email (wkay@berkeleycarroll.org). All entries will be initially waitlisted: we will first clear the waitlist on October 16th, then again on October 23rd, October 30th, November 6th, and November 12th, based on entry/room count. Hofstra has been able to secure a generous number of rooms, so we do not anticipate having to deny anyone entry to the tournament; should we reach capacity before registration closes on November 11th, TDs will communicate with coaches of waitlisted entries with expectations/next steps.

Judge Obligations/Training Materials:You must provide 1 judge for every 5 speakers (or fraction thereof) in Speech and Congress, ​pooled separately (i.e. 2 speech entries and 2 Congress entries would still demand 2 judges: 1 for speech and 1 for Congress). Judges should be adults who are trained to judge the events assigned to them.​ While we will run a judge meeting to orient everyone to the location/set some norms, we expect judges to have baseline competencies in both their events and in Online Balloting via tabroom.com. Feel free to direct your judges to these guides if they need a refresher.

Fees: We will follow the BQCFL’s sliding scale for registration fees. If fees impose a burden to your school's participation, communicate with WK (wkay@berkeleycarroll.org). Modes of payment: it is GREATLY PREFERRED that fees are paid online using this link. If that is not an option, checks should be made payable to: Hofstra University, Attn: Forensics Team - 23100.

Topics: Congress legislation will be uploaded here by October 15th: we will use the NYC NSDA District’s fall docket. Extemp topic areas are as follows: The Midterm Elections, Global Environmental Issues, New York Politics, and International Conflicts and Diplomacy.

Schedule: All participants should arrive at Hofstra’s Breslin Hall by 9:15AM: extempers will be directed to the prep room (Breslin 111), all other competitors will be assigned a general gathering space. Coaches should check in with the tabroom (Breslin 016) immediately upon arrival. The opening meeting for judges will begin at 9:45AM sharp in the judge lounge (Breslin 112). All schematics will blast at 10am. All first rounds will begin at ​10:15 AM, and extempers need to be in the prep room (Breslin 111) by 9:40. A full schedule will follow as the tournament draws closer. We anticipate the awards ceremony beginning at 5pm in the Student Center Theatre, inside the Student Center.

Participants are welcome to make use of the lounge spaces on each floor of Breslin, but please be mindful of your volume as rounds will be in progress. Beyond those spaces, judges are welcome to sit and write ballots in the judge lounge, and all participants may gather in the Student Center.

Awards: Trophies will be awarded to the students who have advanced to elims. The number of awards will be ​determined by the number of registrants in each event. Team sweepstakes trophies will also be presented. Awards will be at approximately 5pm in the Student Center Theatre, inside the Student Center.

Food: the Student Center will have a variety of options available for purchase.
