Burges Be My Qualifier

The Burges HS Mustang Speech and Debate program would like to welcome you to the 2026 tournament that will be IN-PERSON at Burges High School on February 13-14-2026. We will be offering the complete
set of events in IE’s and LD, PF (if qualified numbers), and Congressional Debate.

This tournament hopes to have a good number of schools sign up and individuals to offer as many qualifying events and points as possible. If any events fail to meet qualifying numbers, then the event will be dropped.

LD Topic: Resolved: The possession of nuclear weapons is immoral.

PF Resolved: The Federal Trade Commission should establish a federal regulatory framework for sports betting.

Congressional Debate will be debating the following pieces of legislation from the TFA Spring 2026 Docket.

Prelims: (9,10,11,12,13 in that order)

Finals: (18,19,20,17,16)

Please refer to the schedule for event times and cross-entry rules.

All cross-entries are at the student’s own risk.

If a student does not make their round on-time they may be dropped, regardless of the reason.

Students may be marked as a no-show if they have not shown up to a round within 60 minutes of the start time, and students who sign into their rounds must perform within 90 minutes of the round's start time. In debates, students may be marked as a no-show after 15 minutes.

Out-rounds will be paneled only if we have enough judges available.

We will break brackets in debate out-rounds.

We will do our best to accelerate the schedule if/when possible, so please pay close attention to the postings and updates.

Burges students will be competing at their own tournament, including in elimination rounds.

Student Congress will take place on the 2nd floor of the L building.

All coaches and students need to bring their school id, and will receive a wristband that will be worn during the entire tournament.

Parking:

Friday: There are three options for parking on Friday morning. DO NOT PARK ON THE SIDE OF EDEGEMERE IN FRONT OF SCHOOL YOU WILL BE TICKETED AND TOWED

  1. Student lot further down Edgemere, no spaces are assigned, and not a far walk to the front of the school
  2. In the neighborhoods nearby, do not block a driveway; tickets are usually issued
  3. Staff lot main parking lot in front of the school. Arrive early; spaces are limited. There will also be a blood drive happening.

Saturday: The staff/Student lot should be fine
