Greetings!
Cody Middle School is happy to announce our second annual speech and debate tournament. We willbe hosting a one-day tournament on February 21 at Cody Middle School. All information requiredto understand this tournament will be located below. We encourage all teams to bring as many accompanying judges as possible.

Registration:
-There are currently NO registration fees expected for this tournament.
-In order to secure enough rooms and judges, we ask that you register as soon as possible. CMSwill be concurrently hosting a basketball tournament on February 21, so we need to have details ofhow many schools and students will be attending in order to make all necessary arrangements..
-Competitors are allowed to be double entered in Interp and Impromptu. There are NO doubleentries allowed in Pattern A(debate / poetry pattern).
-We currently have a limited number of rooms and time, therefore, to accommodate there iscurrently a cap on tournament entries. All speaking events (Interp, Impromptu, and Poetry) arecapped at 25 entries. Debate is capped at 16 entries. I will constantly work to ensure we areallowing in as many competitors as possible and keep you updated on any changes. Thank you foryour understanding.

Round Schedule

Pattern A Events - Poetry and Debate (NO Double Entry in this Pattern)
Pattern B Events - Interp and Impromptu (Double Entry Possible)

Registration and Arrival 9:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Round 1 Pattern A 10:15 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Round 1 Pattern B 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Round 2 Pattern A 11:45 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Round 2 Pattern B 12:45 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Round 3 Pattern A 1:30 p.m. - 2:15 p.m.
Round 3 Pattern B 2:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Finals (All events) 3:15 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Awards 4:15 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

-Pattern A: Poetry and Debate events (Competitors CANNOT be double entered in Patten A)
-Pattern B: Interp and Impromptu events (Competitors CAN be double entered in Patten B)


Judging Information:
-While we do not have a requirement for teams to bring judges, we may have to ask coaches to judge a round if we do not have enough volunteers. We strongly encourage you to bring as many accomanying judges as possible.We will make every effort to fill the judgingrequirements with volunteers from our district.

Finals:
-Speech Finals will consist of up to SIX of the top speakers in the tournament from the preliminary rounds. Rankings will becalculated based on competitors' rankings in the first three preliminary rounds. Tiebreakers, ifneeded, will be decided depending on overall tournament record and strength of competition inprevious rounds.
-Debate Finals will consist of the top TWO teams (a debate team consisting of either 1 or 2 people)in the tournament. Rankings will be primarily based on the win/loss record of the teams.Tiebreakers, if needed, will be decided based on speaker score or strength of competition inprevious rounds.
