2015 Middle School Speech & Debate Fall Classic

November 14 @ City College of San Francisco, Ocean Campus

 

Events

The tournament offers 3 rounds of debate (Public Forum or Lincoln-Douglas), 3 rounds of Congress, and 3 rounds of Individual Events [Impromptu, Original Oratory, Interpretation (Dramatic or Humorous)] to students in the 6th through 8th grades. Students may enter debate and individual events. Students in Congress may not double enter in other forms of debate.  No special accommodations will be made for individual events double entry students and rounds will not be held up to accommodate double entry.

 

Eligibility

Independent and academy entries are permitted, if there is an adult supervisor present at the tournament at all times. All public and private school entries are permitted.

 

Registration & Fees

Register on tabroom.com. There is a cap on the number of teams and entries we can host. Fees cover breakfast and lunch provided by the tournament.

 

            Deadlines:

            Entries & Drop Deadline: Nov 9, 2015 – 5:00pm

            Judge Entries Deadline: Nov 11, 2015 – 5:00pm

 

            Fees:

            School Fee (Mandatory for all schools, academies, & independent entries): $30

            Congress Entry: $15

            Individual Events Entry: $15

            Public Forum/LD Entry: $40

            Hired Judge (Debate & Congress): $50 a round

            Hired Judge (IE’s): $35 a round

 

            Waitlisted Teams:

Teams are limited to 4 entries in each debate event (public forum & LD) and remaining teams will go on a waitlist. Waitlisted teams will be added based on ability to accommodate. 

 

Judges

Schools should provide 1 judge for every two LD or public forum entries. 1 judge should be provided for every 5 IE entries and 1 judge for every 7 Congress entries. You can choose to hire judges through the tournament. There is a fine for missing rounds; please encourage your judges to be on time and friendly to all competitors. Judge training is mandatory and every school must have, at least, one representative in attendance. Judges will be held to the standards discussed in training and schools will be responsible for any judge pulled from the tournament.

 


Tournament Topics

The tournament will use the NSDA selected topics for November for LD & Public Forum. The tournament will upload Bills & Resolutions for Congress docket.

 

Directions

The tournament will be located at the City College of San Francisco, Ocean Campus (50 Phelan Ave, San Francisco, CA 94112). The tournament will be primarily located out of Cloud Hall & Science Hall. Daily Parking Permits are required to park on campus. There are lots on Phelan Ave across from Riordan High School.
