JV/Novice Nationals at Fairmont State University 02/27/2026-03/01/2026
DIVISIONS:We will be hosting Novice and JV divisions following CEDA eligibility rules. We will use a 9-3-6-10 format using the national CEDA/NDT topic for the 2024-2025 season.We will be hosting in person, and will not have the capabilities to host a hybrid version of the tournament. We will allow swing teams to participate as needed and will allow mavericks to compete only after all other possibilities have been exhausted, no more than one per division. Bothwillbe eligible for elimination rounds. .We will use a 30 point scale, allowing for tenth of a decimal place, and NO TIES between debaters in the same round.We will follow CEDA’s Council of Tournament’s directions for best practices unless otherwise stated within the invite. The tab room staff will be Kathryn Rubino and Samantha Godbey. All teams are required to bring or pay for one half-commitment judge for every team entered.
Registration Fees:
There are no registration fees for this tournament.
Food
We will be providing Dinner on Friday, Breakfast and Lunch on Saturday and Sunday. Please make sure to let the tournament know about any dietary restrictions and allergies so appropriate accommodations can be made.
Tournament Registration Information
We will be accepting registration up until the Tuesday (02/24/26) before the tournament at 7:59pm. e-mailed to SamanthaEGodbey@gmail.com and Kathryn.Rubino@gmail.com as they occur. Entries should include the names of debaters and which divisions, as well as a list of judges.
TOURNAMENT HOTEL:We do not have one designated. Here is a list of close hotels to campushttps://www.fairmontstate.edu/about/maps-directions/motels-inns.aspx. Hotels are pretty cheap in Fairmont, the areas close to campus are White Hall and South Fairmont. If trying to judge distances in Google Maps use “Hardway Hall” as where you will be going.
Airports:We are 94 miles from Pittsburgh International Airport, 16 miles from the North Central WV Airport, which has some limited flights to hubs.
Coaches Reception at the Shaw House:During round 6 on Saturday February 28th, Dr. Mike Davis will hold a coaches reception at the Shaw House ( the President's House on Campus). All interested are encouraged to attend. Please make sure to let tabroom know if you would like the round off.
