Welcome Letter for the PMJ 2026 debate meet

Dear Debate Coach:

You and your team are invited to the annual Pam and Mark Joraanstad Debate Tournament at Shanley High School on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

COMPETITION:

*Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, will be offered.

*All types of debate will be offered, Divisions I and II

*Standard time limits will be followed per the NDHSAA debate rulebook.

*Public-Forum and Lincoln Douglas will debate the January topics as listed on nflonline.org.

*Rounds begin at 8:30 on Saturday morning.

*Please do not arrive prior to 7:00 am as I will not be in the building to let you in.

JUDGES:

*Teams need to provide judges: One judge covers up to 2 debaters in all categories.

*ALL Judges need to be NDHSAA Certified to Judge in North Dakota. Please bring proof of certification for every judge with you. Judges can complete certification online at http://www.ndhsaa.com/

*Judges will be scheduled to judge a variety of levels of debate (Division I and II).

*A very limited number of judges are available for hire at a rate of $75.00/judge.

If the judges you list are only able to judge novice, please indicate this on the registration form.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE ANY SCHOOL CONFLICTS OR INDIVIDUAL DEBATER CONFLICTS FOR JUDGES.

ROUNDS: We will host 4 rounds of each style and level.

CONCESSIONS:

We will have a concession stand for general use. My wife, Cyndi, will be fixing judges room with delicious food.

TAB ROOM: * If you would like to be considered, please contact me personally. *Anyone assisting with tabulation will count as a complete judge slot for their school. *If you prefer to NOT work in the tab room, please indicate this in your registration.

DEADLINE: Registration is due by noon on January 12.
