Welcome to the 80s!
The Flower Mound High School Speech and Debate team welcomes you to the 13th Annual Meet Me at the Mound Swing!
This year, we hop in our Time Machine and journey back tothe 1980s! Feel free to wear your headbands and leg warmers as we sweat to the oldies all weekend!
We hope you join us for all the fun and festivities as we remember a long-ago decade when an entertainer was President, foreign leaders were captured by the US military, the Dallas Cowboys were awful and children spent too much time in front of their screens.
Swing Possibilities!
Students may enter PF or LD on both sides of the swing, or...
Students may compete in up to four IE events (DX, FX, Info, OO, Duo, DA, PR (A and B), PO (A and B), HI, DI, POI) on both sides of the swing, OR...
Students may compete in Congress and up to four IE events on the same side of the swing.
Due to time constraints, CX and WSD students are not able to swing or cross-enter.
Students may enter both FX and DX on the same side of the swing.
Scholarships!
As is our tradition, 10% of all entry fees received will be put into a scholarship fund for top-performing students. Since starting this opportunity, we have awarded nearly $50,000 in scholarships to deserving students. At a minimum, the following will be awarded:
$250 to the Congressional Debater with the most combined sweepstakes points
$125 to each member of the championship CX team
$125 to each member of the PF team with the most combined sweepstakes points
$250 to the LD debater with the most combined sweepstakes points
$500 to the top interper (HI, DI, Pr, Po, DA, DU, POI) based on combined sweepstakes points
$500 to the top speaker (DX, FX, Info, OO) based on combined sweepstakes points
Any unused money in the scholarship fund will be awarded in $100 increments based on a drawing of those advancing to finals (IEs) or quarters (debate).
