Welcome to Layton Legends!

Our tournament will be held December 12th at Layton High School, the schedule is as followed;

Round 1: 3:30 - 5:15

Congress Session 1: 3:30 - 5:30

Round 2: 5:30 - 7:30

Congress Session 2: 6:30 - 8:30

Round 3: 7:30 - 9:15

Awards: 9:30

We will be using the December topics for all debate events.

Judges: Schools with CX entries need to bring CX judges. No show judges will incur fines. The hardest part of a tournament is no show judges.

Events: All events will be in person.

Food: Concessions will be available, we will be having sub sandwiches.

Attire:School appropriate Superhero/Supervillain costumes casual dress with super hero apparel (superhero t-shirt and jeans is sufficient) -or- Professional Dress

Super Spar: Super SPAR is costume character spar with super hero themed costumes. However, students can still compete in Super SPAR without dressing up. Dressing up is optional and students that do not dress up will not be deducted points for not dressing up.
Format:
Flip a coin and have one debater call the flip. The winner of the coin flip gets the option to either:
• Select a topic for the debate from the list below and defer picking sides to their opponent.
OR
• Defer selection of topic choice to their opponent and pick the side of the topic they wish to defend.
Method:
Debaters will have 5 minutes preparation time to brainstorm arguments and write them down.
• Affirmative opening speech (2 minute)
• Cross-examination by the negative (60 seconds)
• Negative opening speech (3 minutes)
• Cross-examination by affirmative (60 seconds)
• Affirmative closing speech (2 minute)
• Negative closing speech (60 seconds)
