William Jewell College invites you to our second annual swing tournament hosted by William Jewell College on the weekend of 10/24/25-10/26/25! This year comes with quite a few changes for the team and, subsequently, the tournament. The tournament will be hosted online and will feature a brand new name! The team has put in an abundance of work to make this season possible, so we thought we should commemorate the hard work put in throughout the history of the debate program at William Jewell College. Gina Lane, former debate coach at William Jewell (among many other things), not only worked tirelessly to ensure that debate at Jewell not only survived, but thrived. Her influence is still felt on campus today, as the debate team, officially known as The Gina Lane Debate Society, is named in honor of her. She has even contributed to the team as recently as 2023, as the team struggled to find coaching for the season. As we are facing the same issue today, we found it extremely fitting to rename the William Jewell College Swing to “The Gina Lane Swing.”

This tournament will feature 2 complete parliamentary debate tournaments, each with 5 preliminary rounds, breaking all winning records, and utilizing random topics. Judge strikes will be available (number pending).

Both tournaments will feature two minutes of flex-time after the PMC and LOC, as well as one minute of flex time after the MGC and LOR.

Prep time 25 minutes

To maximize entries, we will offer only open parliamentary debate. There will be no novice or JV.
