Halstead Dragon Debate Invitational

Debate Coach,

You and your debaters are invited to the Halstead Dragon Debate Invitational to be held Saturday September 27. This tournament will be one day with four rounds. The tournament will feature Open, Novice, and JV divisions. If our numbers get that high, we may need help covering our judging needs.

If you are a new coach who would like to learn how to operate tab, let me know and you can work with me.

  1. Novices will be required to use evidence from the NDCA novice packet, which is hyperlinked here. The evidence may be re-tagged and re-highlighted so long as it is not changed to a totally different argument. Please adhere to the spirit of the packet, which is that we should generally be able to anticipate arguments and have actual clash.

  2. We will debate the current 2025-2026 high school policy debate topic.

  3. Entry fees are $6 per team. We will accept a maximum of four teams from each school until we reach our room capacity. Schools requesting extra entries will be notified when room becomes available. If you have to cancel an entry please let me know as soon as possible.

  4. Any team more than 10 minutes late to a round, through no fault of the tournament, will forfeit the round and receive the 3-4 ranking.

  5. There will not be timekeepers available, so teams should be prepared to time themselves.

  6. We will randomly preset the first two rounds and then power match the remaining two rounds.

  7. Tab will be open and you may be asked to help if you come in.

  8. Medals will be given to the top 8 entries in each division.

  9. Coaches and sponsors may be called in to judge one or two rounds if needed. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

  10. All other KSHSAA rules will be observed – prep time, conduct, grievances etc.

  11. Wifi will be available to competitors.

  12. In the last week leading up to the tournament, I will send out emails with numbers. Please help me to stay accurate by letting me know any adjustments.

  13. Final numbers are due by Friday Sept. 19. However, please let me know of your interest in attending as soon as possible.

  14. Registration is through http://halsteadhs.tabroom.com

  15. Heads up that we are under bond issue construction at the moment. There are a few competition areas no longer available to us and we may need to adjust as needed. Please check your emails.
  16. Concessions must be pre-ordered. They are medium pizzas from Pizza Hut for $15. They can be paid for when they are picked up or paid at the start of the day.
