Collegiate’s Spring Middle School Matchup
WHEN: Wednesday, May 7th, 2025, 4:30pm-8:00pm
WHERE: Collegiate School, 103 N. Mooreland Rd., Richmond, VA 23229
EVENTS: Collegiate is happy to welcome middle school competitors for a two (2) round speech and debate scrimmage that will follow NSDA rules. Limited events offered are Public Forum, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Poetry, Prose, Impromptu, and Declamation.
PUBLIC FORUM TOPIC: Resolved: In the United States, the benefits of the use of generative artificial intelligence in education outweigh the harms. Check out the NSDA topics website for resources on analysis and evidence under the March 2025 topic.
SCHEDULE:
4:30pm - Registration
4:45pm- Judge Meeting
5:15pm- Round 1
6:15pm - Dinner
6:45pm - Round 2
8:00pm- Close
DROPS:
While we would like to see a robust scrimmage with all of your competitors, drops are permitted up to 24 hours before the tournament. Please try not to have drops after the deadline.
JUDGES:
Each school is responsible for providing their own judges with the following quotas: One (1) judge for every two (2) Public Forum Debate entries or fraction thereof and every five (5) Individual Speech Events entries or fraction thereof.
DINNER:
Pizza dinner and water will be provided for all competitors. If your students have dietary restrictions, they may need to provide their own meal or snack. Dinner will be provided for all coaches and judges.
AWARDS:
As this is a practice competition, there will not be awards. Participants will receive a certificate and written feedback from the judges.
