Sunflower Congress Championship

2025 — Online, KS/US

April 9, 2025

Dear Coaches:

You and your squads are invited to participate in the Sunflower Congress Championship on Thursday, May 8, 2024. Hybrid rounds will be held. Those who wish to come in person can compete from Newton High School, and those unable to travel to us may compete via Zoom. Judges will be logged on via Zoom. I am thankful for the opportunity to continue this tournament, which celebrates the best Congress competitors in Kansas.

To be eligible for entry in the tournament, a student must have placed at a Congress tournament above the novice level or qualified for Nationals during the 2024-25 school year. New for this year, students who placed at a Congress tournament in the Novice division during the 2024-2025 school year can enter Novice Congress. Entry fees, which will cover the cost of medals for the top 8 students, plus shipping cost, will be $7 per student.

Each school will need to provide a scorer who is able to see your students. Each school will be able to submit two (2) pieces of legislation for the tournament packet, due by May 1, 2024. I will split into two chambers for the first session if entry numbers justify two chambers. Each chamber will have 3 scorers, including a parliamentarian. The top half of students in each of the two chambers from session one will advance to the super session, not to exceed 16 students in super session.

Round 1 will be from 4:00-6:00 PM. A dinner break will be held from 6:00-6:30. Round 2 will be from 6:30 PM-8:30 PM, with an awards presentation to follow. The tournament also includes traveling trophies for the top school and the best overall speaker.

Registration is open through May 1, 2024 on Tabroom. Please let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck with the rest of your seasons!
