A note on judging and picking up ballots:
It sounds like the a primary reason days have run late at other tournaments this year is due to certain judges not picking up their ballots. We have viable schedules but only if people follow those schedules. At the Logger, all ballots not picked up by the designated start time of the round will receive a five minute grace period before being replaced. If a judge is replaced, they will be fined $50 for the first missed ballot and $75 for the second missed ballot. If a program misses 2 or more ballots then the tournament director reserves the right to drop teams from that program as necessary to make the tournament viable with the available judging. Time is the most essential thing in running any tournament. We are too lax on allowing things to run late when it is entirely preventable. Please let your judges and teams know that they need to be in their assigned locations at the times listed on the pairings. It is far too easy for one person to cause a ripple effect that makes the entire tournament run behind. Judges need to hit the "start round" button on their ballot to note they have picked up the ballot and are in their designated room--whether online or in person.

2025 Puget Sound Logger CARD Tournament
University of Puget Sound
Tacoma, WA
February 22-23, 2025
Greetings,
The University of Puget Sound forensics squad is pleased to invite you to the 2025 Puget Sound Logger CARD Tournament. This year's tournament will take place from Feburary 22-23, 20235. We invite you to attend this tournament and enjoy the "warmth" of the Northwest.
Competition will be help in:
- CARD (Collegiate Advocacy Research Debate)—please refer here for information on speech times and format.
- All Judges should review the judging guide for information on CARD judging norms. Importantly, we seek judges who focus on student educational growth from the perspective of a judge-educator and critic of argument and decision-making paradigms and RFDs should reflect an educational perspective.
- Full-text articles in the community library are available via a shared drive.
- Information on the community library is available here
- Participants can utilize any portion of any article listed in the established community library but not cite material not in the community library as in-round evidence.
All teams will debate the Spring 2025 CARD resolution:
Resolved: Resolved: The United States federal government should adopt one of the following: a carbon tax, an emissions trading scheme, or removal of fossil fuel subsidies.
We work to keep costs low for all attendees and do not seek to make monies off of hosting a tournament. As a result, we will have minimal awards but will offer significant recognition to student competitors.
Please let us know if you any questions or require any further information.
Sincerely,
Derek Buescher, PhD Matt Coleman, JD
