Welcome to the 2025 Mountain Brook High School Betty Gunn Speech and Debate Tournament.

We will continue to offer novice and varsity divisions in Lincoln-Douglas and Public Forum debate, as long as the entries can sustain them. Debaters will use the February NSDA topics, which can be found here: https://www.speechanddebate.org/topics/.

We will also offer individual event competitions in Original Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interp, Extemp, Impromptu Speaking, Prose Interp, Poetry Interp, Duo Interp, Program Oral Interp, and Informative Speaking. Students may enter multiple individual events from either our Friday flight A-IE events and our Saturday-only flight B-IE events, but not in both debate and IE.

Registration costs include meals for your students, coaches, and judges throughout the tournament. Each student will have dinner on Friday evening, breakfast on Saturday morning, lunch on Saturday, and snacks AND pizza during elimination rounds for those still present post-awards ceremonies.

We will also sell snacks and drinks at low prices for your students to enjoy! Meanwhile, judges and coaches may join us in our hospitality lounge for dinner on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and refreshments and snacks throughout the tournament! I look forward to seeing everyone!
