Belonging and Inclusion/Ombudsman

BIS

Please note that the Belonging and Inclusion Station will be in the Tabroom and any situations dealt with in a private area from there.

The Belonging and Inclusion Station is a tournament resource designed to provide interpersonal support to participants who feel excluded from an aspect of the tournament. The BIS also safeguards against potential violations of theNSDA Harassment and Discrimination policy.

The BIS may serve as a resource for any student, coach, judge, or official participating at a tournament to seek interpersonal support or raise concerns an individual feels harassment and/or discrimination has occurred.

    • An individual makes inappropriate remarks or jokes about traditionally marginalized groups.
    • A really powerful speech (that violated no rules) triggers emotions in a contestant or judge and they need space to process their feelings.

Fill out the Intake Form

If a serious issue, please notify your coach or tabroom that an issue has been reported.

Process:

Intake, Inquiry, Resolution and Appeal.

The BIS is not meant to be a punishment arm of the tournament, but a place to resolve the issues that may occur outside of rule based issues.

Ombudsman

The Sundance District Chair and committee will serve as ombudsman. If there is a rule violation, make sure you follow the procedures for how to handle it. Most rules are handled by judges in round. After that, bring your concern to the tabroom and it will be investigated and handled accordingly.
